Lab Technician

Role & responsibility

1. Setting Up and Maintaining Laboratory Equipment:
• Prepare and calibrate lab equipment and instruments for experiments.
• Perform regular maintenance and troubleshoot lab equipment as needed.
• Ensure proper storage and disposal of chemicals, reagents, and other materials.
2. Conducting Experiments and Tests:
• Carry out tests, experiments, and sample analysis under the supervision of scientists or researchers.
• Follow detailed instructions for various experiments and record the process accurately.
• Ensure precise measurements and protocols are followed during testing.
3. Recording and Analyzing Data:
• Maintain accurate records of test results, experimental procedures, and observations.
• Input data into laboratory management systems or databases.
• Analyze data to identify trends, anomalies, or significant results.
4. Quality Control and Assurance:
• Monitor and ensure adherence to laboratory quality standards, ensuring results are consistent and reliable.
• Conduct routine checks and verifications to confirm the accuracy of test results.
• Perform calibration and validation of equipment as needed.
5. Lab Safety and Compliance:
• Adhere to safety protocols to handle hazardous chemicals, biological samples, and equipment.
• Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment to minimize contamination or accidents.
• Ensure proper disposal of waste materials, following regulatory guidelines and safety standards.
6. Preparing Reagents and Samples:
• Prepare chemical solutions, reagents, and other materials required for tests.
• Collect, process, and store samples (e.g., blood, soil, water) following proper handling techniques.
7. Communication and Reporting:
• Communicate findings, issues, and results to researchers, supervisors, or team members.
• Prepare written reports and summaries of experiments and results.
• Present findings during team meetings or to clients, depending on the labs focus.
8. Support Research and Development:
• Assist in the design and implementation of new experiments.
• Collaborate with researchers to explore new methods or improve existing laboratory techniques.
• Help with product development or testing in industrial and manufacturing labs.
9. Inventor
• Monitor laboratory stock levels and order supplies or equipment as needed.
• Keep track of reagents, consumables, and other materials, ensuring they are stored correctly and within expiration dates.
10. Continuous Learning and Skill Development:

• Stay updated with new technologies, lab techniques, and industry regulations.
• Participate in training or workshops to enhance skills and knowledge relevant to the field.

Additional Responsibilities (depending on the specific industry):

• Medical/Clinical Labs: May include blood sample analysis, running diagnostic tests, and assisting with patient-related research.
• Environmental Labs: Testing water, soil, air quality, and conducting research related to environmental concerns.
• Research Labs: Assisting in scientific investigations, preparing laboratory animals, or contributing to innovative research.

• Perform a variety of analytical tests (e.g., pH, titration, spectroscopy) and physical tests (e.g., turbidity, conductivity) to assess water quality and ensure compliance with standards and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain and calibrate testing equipment, document test results accurately, and report any deviations to the manager for corrective actions.
• Oversee water treatment processes, including the preparation of water salts, backwashing and sanitizing equipment, and managing Reverse Osmosis (RO) operations.
• Ensure the cleaning and maintenance of equipment to maintain operational efficiency, sanitation, and optimal performance.
• Prepare and document chemicals for boilers and other systems, ensuring proper water quality and system functionality through regular monitoring and reporting.

• Preferred candidate profile
• Experience: A minimum of 1-3 years of relevant experience in the field is required. FMCG experience is an added advantage.
• Language: Good English communication
