Mainframe Developer/Lead - COBOL/DB2 (6-10 yrs)

Job Summary :

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mainframe Developer to join our team and contribute to the development, maintenance, and enhancement of our critical mainframe applications.

This role requires a deep understanding of mainframe technologies, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of delivering robust and performant mainframe solutions.

Key Responsibilities :

- Application Development : Design, develop, code, test, and implement mainframe applications using COBOL, DB2, JCL, VSAM, and CICS.

- Analysis and Design : Participate in the analysis and design phases of the software development lifecycle, translating business requirements into technical specifications.

- Debugging and Troubleshooting : Proficiently debug and resolve job abends, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.

- Performance Tuning : Perform performance tuning and optimization of mainframe applications to ensure optimal system performance and resource utilization.

- Code Quality and Best Practices : Adhere to coding standards and best practices to ensure high-quality, maintainable code.

- Testing and Quality Assurance : Conduct thorough testing of applications to ensure they meet business requirements and are free of defects.

- Documentation : Create and maintain technical documentation related to application design, code, and functionality.

- Collaboration and Communication : Work collaboratively with other developers, analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery. Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.

- Problem Solving : Utilize strong problem-solving skills to analyze complex technical issues and develop effective solutions.

- Shift Flexibility : Maintain flexibility to work in UK and US shifts as needed to support global operations.

Required Qualifications :

- 6-10 years of proven experience in mainframe application development.

- Strong proficiency in COBOL programming.

- Extensive experience with DB2 database design, development, and query optimization.

- Hands-on experience with JCL scripting for job scheduling and execution.

- Solid understanding of VSAM data sets and file management.

- Expertise in CICS transaction processing and application development.

- Demonstrated ability to debug and resolve job abends efficiently.

- Experience in performance tuning and optimization of mainframe applications.

- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

- Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.

- Flexibility to work in UK and US shifts.
