Job Description

Overview:

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated System Engineering Team Lead to head a team focused on designing comprehensive power solutions for telecom tower sites. This role will involve managing the design, sizing, and integration of telecom tower power systems, including solar, battery storage, diesel generators (DG), and other energy solutions. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in power system design, energy storage, renewable energy solutions, telecom tower site requirements, and remote monitoring solutions. Knowledge of AC and DC energy meters and their appropriate selection is essential for optimizing energy management across telecom tower sites.

Key Responsibilities:

1. System Design and Engineering:

  • Lead the design and engineering of telecom tower site power plant solutions, including the integration of power systems such as diesel generators (DG), battery storage, solar, and other energy solutions.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, benchmarking and provide technical solutions for energy supply, storage, and management to ensure that telecom tower sites meet energy demands reliably.
  • Design power systems to ensure reliability, efficiency, and sustainability while optimizing costs.
  • Develop detailed technical specifications, sizing calculations, and design documentation for telecom tower power plants.

2. Battery Sizing:

  • Design battery storage solutions for telecom tower sites, including battery capacity planning, charging/discharging cycles, and backup power requirements.
  • Perform battery sizing calculations based on load analysis, operational hours, and site-specific factors (such as environmental conditions and grid availability).
  • Ensure that battery systems are designed to maximize life cycle and performance while minimizing total cost of ownership.

3. Solar Power System Design:

  • Design solar power systems tailored to telecom tower site needs, considering factors such as site location, sunlight exposure, energy consumption, and environmental conditions.
  • Perform solar panel sizing calculations, including determining the appropriate number and type of panels and inverters.
  • Ensure the integration of solar solutions with the grid, backup power systems, and energy storage to create a seamless energy flow.

4. Diesel Generator (DG) Sizing:

  • Design and size diesel generators for telecom tower sites based on load analysis and backup power requirements.
  • Specify and select appropriate DG models considering efficiency, fuel consumption, and operational conditions.
  • Ensure optimal sizing for minimal operational costs and maintenance requirements.

5. Energy Storage Solution Design:

  • Lead the design of energy storage systems, including battery storage and hybrid storage solutions for telecom sites.
  • Perform energy management system (EMS) design for managing stored energy, ensuring efficient energy distribution between solar, DG, and battery systems.
  • Recommend storage solutions that balance performance, lifespan, and cost-effectiveness.

6. Integration and System Optimization:

  • Oversee the integration of renewable energy solutions (solar), energy storage systems, and DG units to ensure smooth and optimal operations across telecom tower sites.
  • Optimize the combined use of energy storage, DG, and renewable power sources to reduce reliance on the grid, minimize operational costs, and improve energy efficiency.
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams (e.g., electrical, mechanical, civil) to ensure smooth integration of power solutions into telecom tower infrastructure.

7. Remote Monitoring Solutions:

  • Solution design and implement remote monitoring solutions for telecom tower power systems to ensure real-time monitoring, performance analysis, and troubleshooting.
  • Integrate remote monitoring software with power plant systems, including solar, DG, battery storage, and energy management systems.
  • Utilize data from remote monitoring tools to optimize system performance, conduct predictive maintenance, and reduce downtime.
  • Ensure the integration of remote monitoring systems with energy management platforms, allowing for proactive energy system management and efficiency improvements.
  • Provide ongoing support for the configuration, testing, and maintenance of remote monitoring solutions.

8. AC/DC Energy Meter Selection:

  • Lead the selection and sizing of AC and DC energy meters for telecom tower power systems, ensuring accurate measurement and reporting of energy consumption, generation, and storage.
  • Ensure that the selected energy meters are compatible with the systems operational requirements and capable of handling expected voltage and current levels.
  • Specify energy meters based on the specific needs of each telecom tower site, considering factors like system architecture, energy type (AC/DC), and load conditions.
  • Ensure that energy meters provide reliable data for energy monitoring, billing, and optimization of power usage across the site.

9. Project Management and Leadership:

  • Lead and manage a team of engineers responsible for system design, implementation, and integration of power solutions for telecom tower sites.
  • Ensure that all projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget, while maintaining the highest engineering and safety standards.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to junior engineers, ensuring continuous skill development within the team.
  • Coordinate with project managers, procurement teams, and external vendors to ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of equipment and solutions.

10. Solution Presentations and Technical Discussions:

  • Lead technical presentations to customers, providing clear explanations of proposed power solutions, design choices, and how they align with client requirements and budget constraints.
  • Conduct technical discussions with clients to understand their needs and requirements, propose solutions, and address any concerns regarding power generation, storage, and efficiency.
  • Provide expert guidance and respond to customer queries during meetings and site assessments, offering in-depth knowledge on energy systems and telecom infrastructure.
  • Prepare and deliver high-quality presentations and reports that explain complex technical information in a clear and accessible manner.

Qualifications:

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering/ Electronics Engineering/Renewable Energy, or a related field. A masters degree is preferred.
  • Relevant certifications in energy systems, power engineering, or renewable energy technologies are a plus.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in designing, sizing, and implementing power systems for telecom tower sites, including solar, battery storage, DG, and hybrid energy systems.
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams, managing projects, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Extensive experience with energy storage systems, battery technologies, renewable energy solutions (solar, hybrid systems), and remote monitoring solutions.
  • In-depth knowledge of telecom tower operations and power demands, including backup power, operational reliability, and cost optimization.
  • Strong experience with the selection, sizing, and implementation of AC and DC energy meters.
  • Experience preparing technical documentation for RFPs, tenders, and bids, as well as presenting solutions to clients and stakeholders.
  • Strong experience in conducting technical discussions with clients and providing post-presentation support.
