Assistant Manager - Production

Role & responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

1. Production Planning & Execution

• Develop and implement production plans to meet export order deadlines.
• Monitor daily production targets, ensuring adherence to timelines and quality benchmarks.
• Optimize production workflow by coordinating with departments like CAD, CAM, Casting, Polishing, Stone Setting, QC, and Packing.
• Ensure effective utilization of machinery, tools, and manpower.

2. Quality & Process Control

• Ensure jewellery pieces meet international quality standards and customer specifications.
• Collaborate with Quality Control and Quality Assurance teams to minimize rejections and defects.
• Drive process improvements and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to enhance efficiency.

3. Manpower Management & Training

• Supervise and mentor production supervisors and workers to ensure optimal performance.
• Conduct regular training sessions to improve technical skills and production efficiency.
• Ensure discipline, safety, and compliance with labour laws within SEEPZ guidelines.

4. Cost & Inventory Management

• Monitor and control production costs, raw material wastage, and operational expenses.
• Maintain inventory levels of precious metals, gemstones, and other raw materials in coordination with the Stores and Purchase teams.
• Ensure efficient dust collection and metal recovery processes to minimize loss of precious materials.

5. Compliance & Documentation

• Ensure adherence to SEEPZ export regulations, customs procedures, and compliance requirements.
• Maintain production records, process documentation, and reports for audits and management review.
• Implement safety protocols, environmental guidelines, and workplace hygiene as per SEEPZ norms.

6. Cross-Functional Coordination

• Work closely with the Design, Merchandising, and Sales teams to align production with market trends and client demands.
• Coordinate with Maintenance and Engineering teams for smooth functioning of machinery and infrastructure.
• Liaise with HR for recruitment, workforce planning, and employee engagement activities.

Key Skills & Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of jewellery manufacturing processes (Casting, Setting, Polishing, Plating, etc.).
• Experience in managing large-scale jewellery production for exports.
• Proficiency in production planning, workflow optimization, and resource management.
• Familiarity with SEEPZ regulations and compliance requirements.
• Leadership and team management skills.
• Problem-solving and decision-making ability.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred candidate profile

• Education: Diploma/Degree in Jewellery Manufacturing, Engineering, Production Management, or a related field.
• Experience: 8-12 years in jewellery manufacturing, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial role.
• Industry Exposure: Prior experience in an export-oriented unit (EOU) within SEEPZ is preferred.
• Technical Skills: Knowledge of production software (ERP, CAD-CAM integration), lean manufacturing, and Six Sigma methodologies is an added advantage.
