Role & responsibilities

1. Health and Safety Policy Development:

• Develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures tailored to the senior care facility, ensuring compliance with local regulations and organizational standards.
• Regularly review and update safety policies, considering changes in regulations, facility operations, or healthcare practices.

2. Risk Assessments and Safety Audits:

• Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards in the facility, including medical equipment, resident care areas, kitchen, and laundry facilities.
• Perform safety audits to ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards, including equipment safety, hygiene, and proper waste disposal.
• Implement corrective actions based on risk assessments to mitigate identified hazards.

3. Injury Prevention and Accident Investigation:

• Develop and implement programs to prevent workplace injuries, especially in high-risk areas such as patient handling, lifting, and use of medical equipment.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses involving staff or residents, identifying root causes and recommending actions to prevent recurrence.
• Maintain accurate records of workplace injuries, accidents, and incidents, reporting as required by regulatory authorities.

4. Compliance and Reporting:

• Ensure compliance with all local, national, and industry-specific health and safety regulations.
• Prepare reports and documentation required for compliance inspections, licensing renewals, and audits by regulatory bodies.

5. Fire Safety Training:

• Train staff on fire safety protocols, including how to use fire extinguishers, fire alarms, and emergency evacuation procedures.
• Organize regular fire drills to ensure staff and residents are familiar with evacuation routes and procedures in case of a fire emergency.
• Collaborate with local fire departments to provide additional fire safety training and conduct facility inspections.

6. Emergency Evacuation Plans:

• Develop and maintain comprehensive emergency evacuation plans for the facility, ensuring that evacuation routes are accessible to all residents, including those with mobility issues.
• Ensure that emergency exits are clearly marked and unobstructed at all times.

Qualification & Experience:

• Bachelors degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Fire Safety, or a related field.
• Certification in Health and Safety or Fire Safety Management is often required (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, or NFPA certifications).
• Specialized training in healthcare-related safety, infection control, or workplace ergonomics is an added advantage.
• Graduate with Masters in Healthcare Administration ( MHA) preferred.
• 3 - 5 years experience in relevant field.
