Legal Manager

Role & responsibilities

• Litigation Management: Lead and manage litigation cases from inception to resolution, including case analysis, strategy development, and trial preparation. Handle both pre-litigation and ongoing cases.
• Representation in Court: Represent the organization or clients in court hearings, motions, arbitration, and mediation. Argue motions, prepare legal briefs, and present evidence in legal proceedings.
• Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough legal research, review case law, statutes, regulations, and other legal resources to prepare for litigation matters. Advise on the merits of cases and offer legal strategies to clients or the company.
• Drafting Legal Documents: Draft and review pleadings, complaints, answers, discovery documents, settlement agreements, and other legal documents related to litigation matters.
• Settlement Negotiations: Participate in settlement negotiations, mediation, and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes to resolve cases favorably and efficiently. Work towards achieving favorable settlements when possible.
• Client and Stakeholder Interaction: Provide regular updates to clients, management, and other stakeholders on case developments. Offer clear legal advice and communicate potential risks, benefits, and outcomes of litigation cases.
• Strategy Development: Develop litigation strategies, assess the strengths and weaknesses of cases, and provide recommendations for actions or defenses. Ensure that the litigation process aligns with the broader business objectives.
• Cost Management: Manage legal costs associated with litigation, including budgets for external counsel and litigation-related expenses. Track costs to ensure that cases are handled efficiently and within budget.
• Compliance and Risk Management: Advise the organization on the legal implications of disputes, helping to minimize legal risks and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with other members of the legal department, external law firms, and consultants to manage and support ongoing litigation matters.

Qualifications:

• Law degree (LL.B.) from an accredited institution.
• years of experience in handling complex civil and commercial litigation matters.
• Strong expertise in litigation processes, court procedures, and legal strategies.
• Demonstrated experience in managing high-stakes litigation and achieving favorable results.
• Excellent understanding of litigation laws, regulations, and procedural rules.
• Proficiency in legal research, document management, and litigation tools.
• Exceptional communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
• Ability to work independently and handle multiple cases simultaneously.

Skills:

• Expertise in civil litigation, including experience in drafting legal documents, managing discovery, and trial preparation.
• Ability to analyze and interpret complex legal issues.
• Strong negotiation skills, particularly in settlement and alternative dispute resolution.
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy in legal drafting.
• Proficient in using legal research tools, case management systems, and office software.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with clients, colleagues, and external parties.

Preferred:

• Experience in specialized litigation areas such as [corporate disputes, intellectual property litigation, labor and employment disputes, etc.].
• Certification or membership in relevant professional legal organizations.
• Experience working with or managing external law firms.
