Job Description


Job Title: Operations Lead - Biogas Plant Operations (ATBL)

Job Summary

The Operations Lead will be responsible for managing the end-to-end operations of ATGLs biogas plants, ensuring that all plants operate at peak efficiency, safety, and profitability. This role will involve overseeing daily operations, coordinating with supply chain and maintenance teams, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. The role will also require strong leadership to manage teams across multiple sites and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant performance and cost-effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operational Oversight

  • Lead and manage daily operations of ATGLs biogas plants across multiple locations, including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Odisha.
  • Monitor and analyze operational data to ensure that each plant is meeting its production targets, maintaining high levels of efficiency, and minimizing downtime.
  • Implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and quality across all plants.

2. Resource Management

  • Oversee the sourcing and management of feedstock materials, including agricultural waste, MSW, paddy straw, press mud, and cow dung, ensuring that procurement is cost-effective and sustainable.
  • Coordinate with supply chain teams to secure raw materials at the lowest possible cost while maintaining high quality.
  • Manage plant budgets, ensuring that operational costs are controlled and within the allocated budget.

3. Team Leadership

  • Supervise plant managers and operational staff, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure they are performing effectively.
  • Develop and implement training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of operational staff, focusing on safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations of plant personnel, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

4. Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure that all plants comply with local, state, and national safety regulations, as well as environmental laws and standards.
  • Implement and oversee safety protocols, including emergency response plans, hazard assessments, and regular safety audits.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry regulations and ensure that all operations are compliant.

5. Maintenance and Equipment Management

  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to ensure the reliability and longevity of plant equipment.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to address any equipment issues, ensuring that repairs and upgrades are completed promptly.
  • Ensure that all plants are equipped with the necessary tools, technology, and resources to operate efficiently.

6. Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and implement opportunities for process improvements, focusing on increasing plant efficiency, reducing operational costs, and enhancing sustainability.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and technological advancements that could benefit ATBL’s operations, recommending and integrating new solutions where appropriate.
  • Drive innovation in biogas production, including the exploration of new feedstocks, technologies, and methods.

7. Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare detailed operational reports for senior management, covering aspects such as production metrics, safety incidents, and budget adherence.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all plant operations, including maintenance logs, safety audits, and regulatory compliance documents.
  • Provide regular updates to the Operations Director on the status of plant operations, highlighting any issues or opportunities for improvement.

8. Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the primary point of contact for operational matters with internal teams, external vendors, and regulatory authorities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including suppliers, contractors, and local communities.
  • Coordinate with project teams on the commissioning of new plants or expansion projects, ensuring a smooth transition from construction to operation.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or related field); Master’s degree in Operations Management or a related field is preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in plant operations, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role within the renewable energy or biogas sector.
  • Proven experience managing multi-site operations, particularly in the context of biogas or renewable energy plants.
  • In-depth knowledge of biogas production processes, including feedstock management, gas purification, and fertilizer production.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and compliance requirements in the renewable energy industry.
  • Experience with budget management and cost control in an industrial setting.
  • Proficiency in using operations management software, SCADA systems, and other relevant technology.

Skills and Competencies

  • Leadership and team management: Ability to lead diverse teams across multiple sites, fostering collaboration and high performance.
  • Technical expertise: Strong knowledge of biogas production and plant operations, with the ability to troubleshoot and optimize processes.
  • Safety and compliance focus: Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills: Ability to analyze complex operational data and implement effective solutions.
  • Communication skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities, with the capability to interact effectively with senior management, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Project management: Experience in managing large-scale projects and coordinating with multiple teams.
