Job Summary

The Design and Engineering Manager for the Biogas Plant is responsible for overseeing the entire design, engineering, and technical aspects of biogas plant projects. This role includes leading the design team, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations, and optimizing the design to maximize efficiency and sustainability. The role requires a strong understanding of biogas technology, project management, and engineering principles.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Design and Planning

• Lead the design process for biogas plants, including layout design, process flow diagrams, and detailed engineering designs.
• Develop and validate design concepts that meet the projects technical, environmental, and economic objectives.
• Conduct feasibility studies and site assessments to determine the optimal design for the plant.
• Prepare detailed engineering drawings and specifications for all plant components, including digesters, gas storage systems, purification units, and power generation equipment.

2. Engineering and Technical Oversight

• Ensure that all engineering designs comply with local, national, and international standards, including safety, environmental, and building regulations.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including procurement, construction, and operations, to ensure that the design aligns with project requirements.
• Oversee the selection of materials and equipment, ensuring they meet the required specifications and are suitable for the plant’s operational environment.
• Monitor and evaluate new technologies and innovations in biogas production, incorporating them into designs where applicable.

3. Project Management

• Develop project schedules, budgets, and resource plans for the engineering and design phase of the project.
• Manage the engineering team, including assigning tasks, providing guidance, and conducting performance reviews.
• Coordinate with contractors and subcontractors to ensure that the engineering aspects of the project are delivered on time and within budget.
• Review and approve all technical documents and designs before submission to clients or regulatory bodies.

4. Quality Control and Assurance

• Implement quality control procedures to ensure that all designs meet the required standards and specifications.
• Conduct regular design reviews and audits to identify and address any issues or discrepancies.
• Ensure that all engineering documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and properly maintained.

5. Safety and Environmental Compliance

• Ensure that all designs incorporate safety measures and comply with relevant health and safety regulations.
• Develop and implement environmental protection strategies, ensuring that the plant design minimizes environmental impact.
• Collaborate with the compliance team to obtain necessary permits and approvals for plant construction and operation.

6. Client and Stakeholder Management

• Act as the primary point of contact for all engineering-related matters with clients, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders.
• Prepare and present technical reports and design proposals to clients, management, and stakeholders.
• Support the business development team in preparing technical proposals and bids for new projects.

7. Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings in the design and engineering process.
• Provide training and mentorship to junior engineers and design team members.
• Stay updated on industry trends and best practices, integrating them into the design and engineering processes.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, or related field). A Master’s degree is preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in design and engineering, with at least 5 years in the renewable energy or biogas sector.
• Strong knowledge of biogas plant design, including anaerobic digestion processes, gas purification, and energy recovery.
• Experience with project management tools and software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Microsoft Project.
• Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., ASME, ISO) and regulatory requirements for biogas plants.
• Strong leadership and team management skills with experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
