1 Question

  • Q1. Asked general questions about previous company & experience. expectation about salary.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Aptitude test, psycho matrix test, Logical Test,

General Tips: This interview was a technical one but was majorly a stress test. It lasted for about 1 hour 10 minutes. The interviewer wanted to test both my knowledge and communication skills. Most of the questions asked to me were related to my B.Tech curriculum i.e. computer science related topics. He stressed a lot on the basics related to my project topic. Luckily I was able to answer most of the questions correctly. I tried to answer each question with examples and also used props on the table (like pens, paperweights, pen stands etc.) to explain my theories. It was my first offcampus interview, and I think I did pretty well for a fresher.

PART TWO: logical reasoning, standard IQ type Questions, was simple.
PART THREE: An essay, one out of two, one choice was nuclear deal and the other was education system in India.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: Some regular puzzles were given, which were easy. A discussion on internship work.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: They are looking for people with good aptitude, very good communication skills and strong desire to learn. Also, someone with good academic record and clear career goals.
Tips: Do not panic in the interview.

General Tips: For GD, improve the content by reading and/or discussing among wing mates. Don't be aggressive but be assertive and ENERGETIC.
College Name: IIT KANPUR

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: Fundae session by seniors and a resume workshop by some company. Also, sent resume to some seniors for their opinions and I think this was an important part of it.
Tips: I suggest Pre-placement talks, are a must. What is more important is not to believe the PPTs completely and ask seniors about the level of fundaes (finance/tech/otherwise) and preparation required to crack the company. There is a lot of good material on ATKEARNEY and other website. Other than that I used the material available for years.

Round: Interview
Experience: Final offers in my division were 12. There were two levels of case interviews. The first interview was to judge if I would be suitable for the Strategy and Operations profile or for the Technology and Integration profile. There were two interviewers. They explained to me both the profiles and asked me what I wanted to choose and why. Then asked me some general HR questions like why consulting, why you etc. Then started off with an informal case study. It was about a new company which wanted to start a new low cost airline and had no experience in this market till now. It has two options: either to acquire an existing company or to build up all processes on their own. I was first asked to qualitatively mention what all aspects I would consider. After that they asked me what new things could this company do. They were pretty satisfied with my answers and I was confident of getting listed in the next round. In the next round there was single interviewer who was looking quite senior. Asked some HR questions. One case study about a consumer durables dealer which was again qualitative. Asked some HR questions that's it.

General Tips: Lack of interaction with seniors throughout IIT stay was one thing for which I had to pay. I had no seniors in my wing and I had no fundae of the amount of preparation required.
So make sure that you have certain information.

Interview Questionnaire

9 Questions

  • Q1. Tell me about yourself which is not mentioned in your resume
  • Q2. Why Citigroup?
  • Q3. In an urn there are 100 balls. 60 white, 40 black, 50 spotted 50 non-spotted. What is the probability that a white ball chosen at random will be spotted?
  • Q4. You did well in the test. So did you appear for CAT?
  • Ans.

    Yes, I appeared for CAT.

    • Yes, I appeared for CAT.

    • I prepared extensively for CAT and gave my best.

    • CAT is a highly competitive exam for admission into top MBA programs.

    • I took the CAT exam last year and scored well.

    • CAT stands for Common Admission Test and is conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs).

  • Q5. What are your plans for higher studies?
  • Q6. Suppose we do not offer you a job, then what?
  • Q7. Where do you see yourself 3 years from now? 10 years from now?
  • Q8. One trait you would like to improve upon
  • Q9. Why not a PhD?

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Most of the questions were from DI and Quant. It was a speed test. The questions were easy, just that one had to do the maximum number of questions to qualify.
Tips: CAT preparation will help one to breeze through the test.
Duration: 30 minutes
Total Questions: 45

Round: Other Interview
Experience: It was a 20-minute one to one interview.
It started with the normal question “Tell me about yourself”. I had done my internship in one of the analytics firms, so she was interested in my project. I explained the work and she seemed impressed.

Round: Other Interview
Experience: Again, it was a 20-minute one to one round. The interviewer was interested in my internship project and asked me to explain it.
A few puzzles like the one mentioned were also asked.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: This interview was also a 20-minute one to round.
Another subsidiary of Citigroup had visited the campus the earlier day so she asked me if I had applied for it, I told her “No.” She asked “why ?” .. then I told her “I have my seniors at Citigroup and would love to work with them.” She seemed quite
impressed. She took the names of the seniors. (So if you have seniors in a company who know you, you can always mention their names. It shows you have a keen interest towards the company).

For the non Maths students there was a common question that, “If you were so interested in Maths (Analytics) why you didn’t choose Mathematics and Computing as your branch?”

Round: Other Interview
Experience: It was a 30-minute panel interview. This was a puzzle cum HR interview where all my previous interviewers were present.
Tips: From my experience I could feel they were for recruiting genuinely interested candidates, also recruiting someone who was good at problem solving.

General Tips: I would like to start this article by telling you something about your major concern, and that is “Will this economic crisis has a telling effect on your job prospects ?”. And the answer is both Yes and No. I am a 5th year Mathematics student and have closely seen the placements of 3 batches and from my experience, I can surely say that “One who prepares well , gets through, No matter how tough the situation is". It happened with my batch and your batch won’t be an exception (Unless a catastrophe happens).Dilemma: Most of you guys sitting for placement shall be in your 7th semester which is considered to be one of the most hectic of all the semesters. Many of you might be preparing for CAT, others for GRE, some of you would have got a tough guide for your final year project. So you need to prioritize things. You need to think it through; “A Realistic Self Analysis” always helps. I’ll share what I did. I did join coaching classes for CAT but my first priority always was placements and accordingly I planned and executed things. Getting a 99+ percentile and then clearing the GD and PI’s was too much of a risk for me to take. So this might be one of the better times to go for your MBA but always have other options ready just in case.Resume for Analytics Companies:Most of the analytics companies have a lot of Statistical Analysis and Data Management work. So, candidates having an experience in Data handling are preferred. If some project of yours involved Data Handling, mention it in detail. If you have done some of the applied Statistics courses in the Maths/IME department, mention it in your resume.
