Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: The written exam was not a multiple choice objective type exam (generally as in other companies), but was totally descriptive type.
Questions were like 'write in short', 'definitions', 'differentiate between', etc.
*First 10 questions were about drawing BMD, SFD and deflection profile of given beam or frame structures. (overhanghing beam loaded with UDL; portal frame(with different support conditions) loaded with central point load, UDL, horizontal load; etc.) *How the load is distributed from slab to secondary beam, secondary beam to primary beam, primary beam to column. *Questions from IS 456 like min. cement content and max w/c ratio for M25 concrete; requirement of duration of form work to column, beams, slabs;*Questions from Prestressed concrete :- min grade of concrete, etc. *Questions from Earthquake Engg. :- significance of mode shapes; definitions of epicentre and focus; effect of soil type on structure under earthquake. *Plastic design :- Explain in short about 'Mechanism', show beam and sway mechanism for simple portal frame. *1 problem on Moment distribution method. *Definition of Centre of mass. *1 problem on design of tension member by IS 800:2007. *1 problem on analysis of truss. *types of failure in steel plates under tension. *different kinds of compression members. *limits for deflection criteria. Overall, in all the subjects, basics were covered in the written exam.
Tips: The company people were very co-operative, cool and friendly. Written exam was actually of 2 hours, eventhough they allowed students to write even after 2 hours completed. Written test was good, it covered all the basics, but ithink it could have been better if they could give more number of problems and some aptitude questions also.
Duration: 120 minutes
Total Questions: 55

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: In technical interview, mainly they asked from the written exam paper. They asked details in right answers. I didn't attempt one question, so they gave hint on that question and asked to solve it. They also asked few questions on Steel design as per new code IS 800:2007.
Tips: In interview, they checked clarity of fundamentals and confidence while giving answers. Overall, it was a very nice experience.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: They asked about myself, about willingness to work anywhere in India, whether I am planning for PhD or not, my ambition in life and what kind of job I want to do.

General Tips: *First of all, be thorough with all the basic subjects of structural engineering (Analysis, RCC design, Steel Design, Prestressed concrete and Earthquake engg), don't wait for the time when companies start visiting the campus, do it well in advance. *Go through all the projects, industrial trainings and seminars/papers presented by you and check every minute details. *Some companies are having aptitude test also. Practise some fundamentals of aptitude questions. *Be CONFIDENT while answering in interview. For placement, this factor is as much important as your knowledge. *Never bluff in the interview. If you don't know anything, just accept it.
ALL THE BEST TO ALL. Wish you all have best placement, best wife/husband and best life waiting for you....

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Paper was based on technical. One fifth of the  questions were based on Portal Frame. We were asked to draw Bending moment diagram and elastic curve for portal which have different end conditions.
Apart from that they asked general question based on IS 456 code. 1. write the Equation for load transfer from the slab to Beam in two way slab. 2. For solving continuous beam what are the factors used in IS456. 3. Find out the tensile force in Steel As per IS 800:2007. 4. Draw B.m. and S.F diagram for continuous beam. 5. Find out the footing sizes as per given loading. 6. Find out the height of wall to counteract the Chajja. 7. Draw diagram of web buckling and web crippling. 8. Tests to find out Safe bearing capacity. etc
All the questions are technical only.
Duration: 180 minutes

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: They asked all the question which were there in the technical test. Apart from that he gave me some technical problem and asked me as to how i should proceed to analysis this. He gave me a wall 3 meter standing - how would you analysis this ?  how would you will calculate the moment coming at the base of wall ? how Foundation is design for moment as well as axial load ?
He asked me some questions on Seismic analysis. He wanted to only the approach of the analysis of the structure, not the formula.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: He asked me about the company as well as my willingness to work at any part of country.

General Tips: It was quite a good experience. The interviewer had good technical knowledge and wanted to see the approach of how you tackle that type of problem.
