Interview Questionnaire

2 Questions

  • Q1. Thermodynamics and heat transfer.
  • Q2. IC engines

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: First Round was Test- Test 1 was aptitude test had English, basic math and logical reasoning. Test 2 was technical. It had questions from all areas of Mechanical. Since TCE is mainly involved in power engineering expect a lot of questions on Thermodynamics Heat transfer Fluid mechanics and Strength of Materials.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: The second round was a technical round: Predominantly easy questions from thermodynamics and heat transfer. Some very basic questions on IC engines and their classifications as well as distinguishing features. The technical round tests basics and a brief revision is more than enough to know the answers.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Third round is HR. Standard generic questions such as why do u want to join our company? and about comfort levels on working in different places in India etc. HR round is for formality sake. They pretty much decide in the tech round whether you are going to be recruited or not.

General Tips: It was Challenging. It took me a month or two to get past aptitude test because I was slow with mental calculations and had a a block against clearing apti test with negative markings and I messed up a few interviews after that also. But after a while you get used to the whole process.
Skill Tips: Keep Calm. Placement procedures are a test of patience and composure. Don't let the anxiety of wanting a job cloud your judgement or hamper your performance. Take mock interviews if given by your seniors. Refer GATE tutors for revising technical concepts.

Interview Preparation Tips

Interview preparation tips for other job seekers - I would say prepare the three basic subjects of civil very soundly. Be confident in what you are saying. If you don't know the answer say that you don't know with some near or approx answer ideas. Be very thorough with your final year projects.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Round 1: MCQs: tech + apti

Round: Other Interview
Experience: Round 2: Interviews; (a) Tech (b) HR

General Tips: It was a Good experience! Tech questions asked were not very difficult, nor too easy, exactly how an interview should be. They were chilled out but smart people. They didn't believe in stress interview, etc. but their questions were direct and logical.
Skill Tips: Don't go for books for last minute brush up. First go through the codes, (456,800). Also, for environmental- the lab manual! Books and Shri Hari notes would be too much for last hours, but the lab manuals have all the necessary and important procedures, and also limits of various pollutants/minerals as specified by the codes. Very helpful for last minute work. Sitaram sir's notes for soil mech should be sufficient. All these done, 1st round should be a cakewalk. Also, there is no harm in saying "I don't know", (not for all the questions of course!). Don't try to give round-about or approximate answers in tech interview. That is not appreciated. They don't expect you to know everything they ask. Just be polite and say "I don't know", but mention that you'll make it a point to learn and understand those topics before you join the company. (Limit State Design for SteelStructures is a big example. We're taught Working Stress, which is now obsolete except for bridge design. Just say that you were not taught, and that you'll read it on your own before you join!)
Skills: RCC Structures, Apti, Quantitative Aptitude, IS codes, Tech question

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: There was an aptitude and technical test after which the company shortlisted 17 students.

Round: Other Interview
Experience: 7 were made offers after the interview.
Tips: Stay calm.

General Tips: It was interesting and fun. And definitely rewarding too.
Skill Tips: Pay at least a minimum amount of attention in all your classes. You never know when any of it might come up. Patience and good language skills also help.
College Name: NIT SURATHKAL

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: 2 exams, one is aptitude+general knowledge and other is fully concentrated on Civil Core.

Round: Test
Tips: For web source, join ASCE group on LinkedIn.

General Tips: Keep calm and believe in yourself and your preparation. If you don’t know the answer say you don’t remember or don’t know. Be prepared for HR questions in advance like why do you want to join our company. Prepare yourself in advance for the questions like these. Visit company website and wiki page at least a day before and have a look at the projects they have completed.
Skill Tips: I read newspaper daily which I think was sufficient for the general knowledge and for core, follow any standard Gate preparation book (Arihant Publication) or class notes. The experience is a mixed filling as Some questions asked in the exam and in the interview are very general and basic.

Round: Test
Experience: In written test, you have 2 papers. Technical and non-technical. In technical round you have i.c engine (major), theory of machine, strength of material, production, industrial, refrigeration and air conditioning etc. But don’t be afraid. The questions are very simple. You just need to overlook on the syllabus.  There will be 40 questions in 20 minutes ... So don’t expect numerical questions
.direct theory and formula based questions in non-technical paper you have 40 questions consists of only English .no apti or anything. If you are strong in vocab that is good...if not den it’s ok. Try to cover grammar part.as grammar has 10 marks weight-age.
Tips: I may suggest that if you are preparing for gate, any core company written you can easily crack.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: Listen g.d will always be a fish market. Just have focus on the key words of the topic.ex, in my topic key words were Mr. Modi and infrastructure. One thing that this company doesn’t give more emphasis on g.d .you just need to speak.
Tips: Dont worry about g.d. simply this company checks whether you can at least speak in english or not.. G.d. is not an elimination round.

Experience: 1st search that what are the scopes that any engineering construction company has for mechanical engineers... My answer was that for design of duct in air conditioning system, mechanical electrical plumbing, hvac system (heating, ventilating, and air conditioning) for all the above system any construction company needs a mechanical engineer. Another thing is that mechanical engineers are the back
bone of any core company. Wherever there is a machine, there will be a mechanical engineer.Another thing never tell them that you want higher studies. I answered," I have a rough idea related to technology during my 4 years course. Now I just want 2 explore that are the practical applications of those theoretical knowledge"
Tips: Have a brief idea about what is the company ,who are the key persons, foundation of company

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: The procedue is very simple.the questions are very simple.have maximum focus on your summer training. In my case out of total 40 minutes interview 30 minutes discussion was related to my project.. 10 minutes from theory of machine(gear, shaft),mechanics of material(types of beam) and last h.r interview.
Tips: Prepare for gate ..you will be having 100% confidence during your personal interview. And finally all the best for your future...any query you can stay in contact with me via facebook.

Skill Tips: If you are preparing for gate, you will surely get a core job...you can buy made easy hand book for short notes of all the btech course. It will also be helpful for your gate preparation a ..you can get it from nearest book stall or online.
