Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Curriculum vitae submission
Experience: Only an initial shortlist of around 30 students was done based on CV.
Tips: Mention your academic credentials, math/statistics based work done (if any).

Round: Test
Experience: It consisted of two subjective questions based on probability theory and some common understanding of credit card division (like 'What is score card?'). Students were free to ask any specifics in the questions. One question was solely based on conditional probability and the second one was intuitive with general probability fundamentals.Quantify your results, don't leave them halfway through. State your assumptions clearly.
Tips: Quantify your results, don't leave them halfway through. State your assumptions clearly.
Duration: NA minute
Total Questions: 2

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: 10 students were shortlisted. The interview started with a general overview of the CV and common questions like 'Why American Express?". Then they discussed about my project and internship, why I opted FRM and why I did not apply for higher studies. It concluded with a case study question on credit card division and a puzzle.
Tips: Practice puzzles and case study questions. One must have good communication skills.Have a good understanding of your projects, especially if it is based on statistics/quant/pattern recognition. The people who come for interview know their stuff very well.

General Tips: At one point of time, the interviewer himself was trying to convince me that Iam better suited for the profile offered by Nomura because of my interest in finance. Luckily,I had done some good background study of the company and stated a few facts about thefirm which made them realize that my FRM is also a very good asset for their credit carddivision as it involved credit risk management. It was a very peaceful/friendly interview. Beconfident with your resume and use the hints they give you during the case interview.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: While applying to core companies I focused more on my projects and internships and on the other hand while applying to non-core companies I went through the company’s annual report and tried to analyse the kind of work the company was involved in and also the vision the company held and tried to arrive at a common ground keeping in mind the vision of the company and my interest while framing the resume.

Round: Test
Experience: Since I did not prepare for CAT it was slightly difficult for me to clear the written tests. I borrowed some books from my friends and practiced them thoroughly well. The tests are pretty simple which I realized later after giving these tests. The tests require basic mathematics knowledge and some speed. A person having prepared for CAT should have no problems in dealing with these tests.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The interviewer was a graduate from IIT Delhi in civil engineering. He asked me some basic questions and told me exactly how Flipkart operates. He asked me to talk about myself. Then he inquired about my 3rd year internship, which I had done in IIT Delhi in the civil engineering department. I told him about the kind of work I did in my internship.
Next he asked me to state the reason for the switch from civil arena to software arena in spite of having done a number of projects and internships in civil sector. Further he asked me a few basic questions related to civil engineering like ‘Which is the largest column built in India till date’.
Lastly he asked me that if offered posting in Bangalore or further south which would I prefer. To this I replied saying that I would prefer a posting somewhere in north India. I believe that this is the primary reason why I squandered my chances of getting recruited in the company.
The company eventually recruited 7 candidates.
Tips: If you are a civil engineer you should have good knowledge about structural engineering because generally each and every company would ask technical questions to a civil engineer from this topic.

College Name: IIT ROORKEE
Motivation: Flipkart came for placements for the very first time. I had applied for the Management Trainee profile. They were looking for people who had dynamic profile and those who had good communications skills.
