  • Q3. Suppose there are two pipes to send water from A to B. There are two routes – X and Y. What would be the head loss? How many types of losses are there?
  • Ans.

Head loss in pipes depends on route, flow rate, pipe diameter, and fluid properties. There are several types of losses.

    • Head loss is the reduction in pressure due to friction, turbulence, and other factors.

    • The head loss in each route depends on the flow rate, pipe diameter, and fluid properties.

  • Q4. What is consolidation of soil? Why does it occur? (Draw the stress-strain curve)?
  • Ans.

Consolidation of soil is the process of gradual compression of soil due to the weight of overlying material.

    • Occurs due to the expulsion of water from the void spaces between soil particles

    • Results in a decrease in soil volume and an increase in soil density

    • Can be represented by a stress-strain curve showing the relationship between applied stress and resulting strain

    • Commonly observed in construction projects where build

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: I had a standard resume for this company as per our institute placement cell norms.
As Engineers India Ltd puts more focus on core technical skills, so I mentioned Structural Analysis and Design as my area of interest in the resume.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Engineers India Ltd directly had an interview round after shortlisting the students based on their resume/CGPA. A student should have had a CGPA of more than six across all the semesters to get shortlisted.
The interview was a technical plus HR interview. I was asked 2-3 questions from every field of Civil Engineering viz. Structures, Transportation, Soil and Hydraulics. Some of the questions asked were questions related to Bending Moment Diagram (Structures).

College Name: IIT ROORKEE
Motivation: I attended the company’s presentation during the pre-placement talk and also went through the company’s website.
