Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: Resume is the first most important step. I collected well-made resumes of our alumni and went through them. Once I got a fair idea,  I started with the first draft, several rounds of modifications followed in the subsequent months.
Tips: Starting early is important. Also it is critical that your resume is very original as it depicts you!

Round: video resume + case study of a firm of our choice + letter to client's ceo on why it should hire bmgi
Experience: I chose Indigo Airlines for the firm.

Round: extempore
Experience: My topic was ‘speed’ and I was able to list the pros and cons of this topic easily.

Round: CASE STUDY
Experience: We were handed a lengthy business problem, which we had to analyze and provide recommendations. The problem roughly was as follows: A label printing company was witnessing a decrease in profits, due to increased costs. We were given some details of the operation of the printing machine and the associated issues, based on which we had to create a solution.Though I was exhausted, I was able to convey my thought process succinctly in the end. The recommendations I put forward were also reasonably good.

Round: Interview
Experience: It was mostly HR, with 1 or 2 short cases. They first asked me to walk through my resume, asked about New Delhi. This was followed by discussion on cinema, as I had described it as a hobby.
I was then asked which firm would I choose if I had offers from BMGI, Mercedes-Benz and McKinsey. I was honest with my answer
which they appreciated.
This led to a discussion on the job profile of a strategy consultant. Since I had done a fir bit of research on this, I was able to convey it well.
Next came a mini case study where I was required to keep up to up to find means to meet the ever increasing demand for a certain surgical procedure, with the constraint of having only 3 operating theaters.
The interviewer was only looking for an approach and not a detailed answer. I was able to answer satisfactorily.
Next, some questions on weakness followed by some uneasy counter questions, but I was able to ward them off without any hassles. Lastly, they asked me if I had any questions
and I asked them about the specific expectations from an entry level analyst and the kind of responsibility that one would be supposed to assume, and also enquired about the challenges he had faced during his long experience of working in the consulting
sector. I had a feeling that I had nailed the interview, which proved to be correct.

General Tips: The best way to kick start the preparation is by analyzing your own profile objectively and then set targets, categorizing them as dream, optimistic and realistic. Being optimistic is good, being Unreasonable is not. Take a bottom’s up approach, and prepare to seal those companies first where you have a high chance of being selected. Taking the opposite route can yield very unfavourable results. Do not get dejected. It all falls into place in the end.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: form
Tips: Please give a lot of time to your ITC form, and try to review it with the help of as many people as you can,

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: Initially i was terrified of GD's. But after I started preparing for GD's during my 5th semester, I grew confident with it.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: That is the final round

General Tips: First you have to start thinking about yourself, and be yourself. They want to hire you and not a projected image of someone else.  Do not copy HR answers from others. Do not waste time.Don’t be over or under confident.Don’t judge anyone’s profile. If you are shortlisted, start preparing
for it. Don’t try to take each and every sector.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: Around 55 students were shortlisted for the final round

Round: Interview
Experience: I was asked by a very senior guy why I wanted to join a finance firm despite of having a good record in chemical engineering.  He then asked questions from my resume and we talked about MBA as an option and why I did not want to go for an MBA straight after college. It was more like a discussion.

Round: Interview
Experience: The second panel had 2 people from Corporate Finance and one from Markets. They asked me questions from Chemical engineering, a business study that I had written on my resume and a couple of maths puzzles. The interview went pretty smooth.

Round: Interview
Experience: The final round had 2 senior people from markets and one from Corporate Finance division. They started asking about my internship and how I could relate it to the situation in India. Since my project was on wind energy, they asked me to draw a comparison between wind, solar and thermal energy and which is a better source. They also asked about finances related with the establishment of a wind farm.  Then we had a discussion on counseling service, reasons for suicide and what could we do to stop the,. Then they asked about the difficulties I faced in public relations. They were not judging me on finance and were trying to have a conversation with me, testing my confidence.

I did not guess answers and i straight away told them when I was not sure of the answer.
After this, general questions related to operations in chemical plants were asked. Some scenarios were given and I was asked to make decisions. i answered them. They then started talking about my resume. After a discussion for about 10 minutes, I knew I was getting the offer.
