It's a bag of mixed responsibilities. As in IISc, there are more than 50 departments, so the roles and responsibilities differ from department to department for the same post (i.e.TA), it majorly depends on the department that the kind of work they do. In some department, you may have to operate high end Lab equipments, in few it could be Website mangement and development, in few it could be something else. So, to sum up it's an all-round technical job regardless of the educational background you came from. You have to learn a lot and keep upgrading. And if you are on regular position (not contractual) then internal transfer may happen and then you have to adjust to the needs of the department you get transferred....Read More

There are no major cons, 1. It's hard to get residential quarters.(People are more than quarters) 2. Chances of Promotion on regular positions are narrow. 3. Salary in IISc is Level 5 under 7th CPC, but in most of the IITs it's Level 6 for the same post.

As a PhD student and project engineer, professors are terrible in aerospace engineering department as managers i.e. managing work, timelines etc.

Dislikes

No clarity about project execution. Frequent delays in deadlines. Horrible attitude of professors towards students and project staff regarding work and timelines.
