The Aerospace Engineering department is really good, especially the professors I have met, who have a very good rapport with the students and interns. The professors are not the stereotypes of IIT/NIT profs, here most of the work is collaborative. Sometimes there will be situations where there can be heated arguments but on technical lines. But if you are able to prove your points perfectly, then the professor will give in to listen to your suggestions. The work culture is not exhaustive, but there are quite high expectations to meet in the research's stand of view. That's why it is framed to be a research institute rather than being a technical institute. Most of the research work has to be genuine, unique, comprehensive, and quality results should be generated. I would say there is no management supervision of working or the work hours, it is quite flexible. Most of the time we feel like freelancers. Working at a very flexible time to achieve deadlines. Every week there will be a meeting with the professor either virtually or physically....Read More

The only thing at IISc is a disadvantage is a delay for promotion. They fail to retain most of the research interns with capabilities.

It's a bag of mixed responsibilities. As in IISc, there are more than 50 departments, so the roles and responsibilities differ from department to department for the same post (i.e.TA), it majorly depends on the department that the kind of work they do. In some department, you may have to operate high end Lab equipments, in few it could be Website mangement and development, in few it could be something else. So, to sum up it's an all-round technical job regardless of the educational background you came from. You have to learn a lot and keep upgrading. And if you are on regular position (not contractual) then internal transfer may happen and then you have to adjust to the needs of the department you get transferred....Read More

There are no major cons, 1. It's hard to get residential quarters.(People are more than quarters) 2. Chances of Promotion on regular positions are narrow. 3. Salary in IISc is Level 5 under 7th CPC, but in most of the IITs it's Level 6 for the same post.

As a PhD student and project engineer, professors are terrible in aerospace engineering department as managers i.e. managing work, timelines etc.

Dislikes
