Day to Day Office

This WFH situation is worse than WFO!
The structure and schedule are a mess. My manager just informed us that if we're not directly engaging with clients, we have to be logged into a Teams meeting and have our cameras on so the President can drop in at any time and check if we're working. I'd much rather be in the office than deal with a 9 hour Teams call just so they can monitor us. It's ridiculous.

Ugh, I feel you...This whole 'monitoring' mentality is toxic. It’s not about the quality of work, but rather just making sure you’re physically present in a meeting for hours. Personally, I’m all for remote work, but this constant surveillance is making it worse. We should be trusted to get the job done without having to sit in front of a camera all day. It’s draining. I’d much rather have the option to go to the office if this is the new norm.

it’s honestly ridiculous that companies think that having people glued to their cameras all day equals productivity. I get that they want to check in, but this just feels like micromanaging. The whole point of WFH should be more flexibility and trust, not just switching the office to a digital one. I get it, you want to be productive, but this is overkill.

Honestly, this is one of the reasons I’m starting to hate WFH. The idea of being constantly monitored is not only demotivating, it feels like they don’t trust us to get our work done. The fact that your President can just drop in at any time makes it feel like we're not seen as professionals but as kids being watched by a teacher. If I wanted to be under that kind of constant supervision, I’d just go back to the office

At this point, you’re basically sitting through a never-ending video call, and that’s not 'work from home'...that's 'work in a virtual prison'. I’d rather have the flexibility to manage my time and actually be productive rather than being forced into pointless meetings all day. If they want to monitor, they should focus on the output, not on us sitting in front of a screen.

It’s not about having your camera on for 9 hours, it’s about delivering results and trusting your employees. This constant micromanaging doesn’t breed productivity...it breeds frustration. If you were in the office, you'd have more autonomy. It’s time to push back and set boundaries. Working remotely should mean more trust, not more surveillance.

The whole point of working from home is to have a bit more flexibility, not to be shackled to a Teams meeting for hours. If anything, it sounds like they’re not giving you the freedom to actually focus on your work. It’s like they’re making the office worse, but with even more pressure. If this continues, I’d much rather go back to an office environment where I can at least take a break without being watched.

The idea that someone could randomly pop into your call or check in at any time makes you feel like you’re on high alert all day. Being constantly 'on' isn’t sustainable, and it’s a productivity killer. I’m all for staying connected and having meetings, but this constant surveillance is not the answer. It sounds more like a power play than an actual effort to maintain productivity.

Having to sit through a 9 hour Teams call with cameras on sounds absolutely draining. I totally understand your frustration. WFH should be about focusing on your work in a comfortable environment, not about pretending to be 'active' by sitting in a video call all day. If the company is truly concerned about productivity, they should focus on results, not control.
