Struggling with Unwanted Role Change and Toxic Team Dynamics at Capgemini

I joined Capgemini as a lateral hire with three years of experience specializing in web automation and api testing with Java. However I was assigned to a startup client and asked to work with Python instead. Despite this I managed to continue web automation and api testing using Python. Now, the management is pushing me towards mobile testing—a domain I have no prior experience in or interest in learning. On top of that, the team environment is toxic, making the situation even more frustrating. I'm at a crossroads unsure whether to continue in this role or look for a release.

It's important to be in a role that aligns with your interests and expertise, but also to make sure you're in a healthy work environment. If the toxic dynamics are affecting your productivity and mental well-being, it might be time to either push for a shift within the company or start looking for new opportunities. Take some time to assess what’s most important for your career and personal well-being.

Wow, that sounds frustrating! You’ve been adaptable with the changes, but it’s totally understandable that being pushed into something you're not interested in could feel overwhelming. Have you spoken to anyone about switching teams?

I get how overwhelming it can be when your role keeps changing unexpectedly. The toxic team dynamics are definitely an extra challenge. If you feel that your growth is being stunted or your interests are being overlooked, maybe it's worth having a chat with HR or even exploring other roles that align better with your skills.

You’ve done well to continue to be flexible, but if your passion lies elsewhere, don’t feel trapped. If you can, try to reach out to HR or your manager about switching roles within the company. If that’s not possible, looking for a company with a better culture that aligns with your career goals might be the best step forward.

It’s not easy to face these kinds of challenges, but trust me, you have the strength to navigate this. If it feels like the situation is affecting your well-being, consider making a change.
