Software Engineer or IAS?😅

So, this might sound crazy to some... I just graduated IIT with a CS degree and landed a sweet gig as a software developer at Microsoft Corporation in Hyderabad. Perks? Amazing. Work-life balance? But lately, there's this itch I can't ignore - the IAS exam keeps calling my name. Don't get me wrong, this Microsoft life rocks. But there's this fire in me, a desire to serve the country in a bigger way. The IAS feels like the path to make a real difference. Anyone out there been down this road?😅 Please help.

I'd like to offer my two cents. It seems that you have made a list for yourself. So, let's try and answer it in terms of list only. We'll have two cases - Microsoft and IAS and since you are already working in Microsoft, I'll go with it first. Microsoft:- Lavish Life (Parties and glamorous lifestyle). Check Home*. Check Cars*. Check Travel Abroad**. Check Spending time/networking with good and educated people. Check. Prospects of future studies/growth**. Check The only place you will feel important is in your office. Outside your office, you will be a lowly software engineer. If you aren't into research and such academic stuff, the chances of making a substantial impact on society as a whole are negligible. Even if you do, that impact will be on the upper-class people. The downtrodden people might never even hear about your invention. IAS:- Lavish Life (Parties and glamourous lifestyle). Check Home (A big one and that too (almost) free of cost). Check Cars (Ambassadors - at a very low charge). Check Travel Abroad**. Check Spending time/networking with good and educated people. Check Prospects of future studies/growth++ - Check Good-looking educated wife. Double Check In addition to the above benefits, you get to live your childhood dream. How many children get to live theirs? Well, you know all the benefits of this service. So, I won't be reiterating them.. Also, the monetary issues related to govt. jobs appear once you retire. However, in the current market, top officers are hired by private firms to help them expand their businesses. So, I don't think that you'll ever need work/money. of All the best. * - You'll be purchasing them on loan. ** - You can do this only when your company allows you to do it or else you'll be spending a small fortune on it. + - You can purchase them at a highly subsidized rate of interest. ++ - You can do this when you want and the govt. will be paying for it. Hope I helped you enough to make a choice. Good luck🙂

IAS is only for people who wants to work for public and people not to show off since the selection chance is very less you have to spend at least 2 years full pledged preparation.

I want to be humble. Pls dont get offended.. 🙏 Please ensure you can commit to integrity and honesty before aspiring to become an IAS officer. If maintaining these values is a challenge, it might be better to work in a corporate environment, because dishonesty limited to one office is already saving ("serving") our country.
