Resign or Get Laid Off?

Hello, Currently in bit of a dilemma regarding my career. My organization was acquired in 2020-21 by a major tech company-one of the MAANGs. Over the past year, there have been several round of layoffs across different teams. While I hope for the best, there’s a possibility that further restructuring could affect me, even though it wouldn’t be performance-related. Staying with the company has significant advantages- stock options, ESPP, annual upskilling fund, meals, etc. If I’m able to continue, it would be great for my profile and career trajectory. However, switching to a new role now could also be beneficial, as it would likely come with a good salary hike. Based in Bangalore and earning a fixed salary of 17 LPA, which, with variables, ranges between 19-20.5 LPA. A salary increase would be helpful for me financially, especially in the current circumstances. Should I consider switching jobs at this point? If so, what should I expect as my fixed salary in the current market?

You're facing a tough decision: try to consider your financial situation, career goals, and risk tolerance. If you decide to switch, aim for a 20-30% salary increase. What are your long-term career goals, and how does this decision align with t... see more

If you’re worried about layoffs but want a salary hike, consider switching, aiming for 22-25 LPA fixed, but weigh the benefits of staying for the long-term perks like stock options and upskilling funds.

Just to add, if you get laid off, the severance you receive will be tax exempted to a limit.

I think job stability is missing in your company, Be mentally prepared to face any challenge and try to find another opportunity outside, Ask in for 30 - 50 % hike if possible focus more on fixed salary part

Honestly, I’d stay where you are. The MAANG brand on your resume is worth its weight in gold

I don’t buy the "long-term growth" argument. The reality is, in this market, people are jumping companies left and right for a 20-30% hike.

Layoffs are brutal, yes, but think about what you could gain if you stick with the MAANG long-term. You're probably looking at exponential stock growth, not to mention a solid resume.
