The new safety regulation that’s killing multiple models in Australia
- A federal government regulation mandating specific technical requirements for autonomous emergency braking (AEB) systems in new cars is being blamed for the discontinuation of multiple models.
- Australian Design Rule 98/00 requires all newly launched models from March 1, 2023 to follow specific AEB requirements.
- Now, this regulation will apply to all vehicles on sale from March 1, 2025.
- Petrol-powered Fiat 500 and Abarth 595 hatchbacks don’t comply with either ADR.
- Mahindra’s Pik-Up ute and Scorpio large SUV both lack any form of AEB.
- Mazda 6 sedan and wagon production for our market has already ended.
- Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross small SUV and Pajero Sport large SUV being axed as their AEB systems didn’t meet the standards outlined in ADR 98/00.
- Suzuki Australia managing director Michael Pachota confirmed they’ve reached the end of their local lifecycles.
- Suzuki has confirmed that Jimny 3-Door currently does not meet the newly introduced ADR requirements, however investigations in overcoming this are already at play.
- Hybrid versions of the Vitara and S-Cross will be the subject of a Q3 announcement.

Loads Limited targets Rs29.17/share by December 2025
- Pakistan’s Loads Limited (PSX: LOADS) has been predicted to achieve Rs29.17 per share by December 2025. This would represent a 55% upside potential from the company’s pricing at the date of the report. Chase Securities has suggested that falling inflation will positively impact auto sales as will easy access to financing and monetary easing.
- Currently, Loads Limited is the only tier-1 exhaust system manufacturer in Pakistan, with HiTech Alloy Wheels (HAWL) a subsidiary, for which it recently renegotiated product pricing in the exhaust system and sheet metal segments. Its exhaustive technological capabilities have been developed through partnerships with leaders such as SNIC Co. (a Suzuki Motor Corporation subsidiary).
- Pakistan's auto industry is recovering from previous slowdowns, which indicates future growth potential for auto sales. Chase Securities predicts that the industry will hit a new peak in the next three years, driven by rising demand from its working population. Consequently, the company's management has increased their working capital to cater to an anticipated higher demand once the market revives.
- However, BEVs present a significant concern, as localized charging and supply chain for batteries and charging equipment is lacking. Nevertheless, due to the battery capacity of up to 200km compared to full tanks of gasoline vehicles which result in 400-500 km distances, the BEVs do not seem to be viable for low-income consumers who buy small cars as their only car.
- Although, the author of the report does predict that when the CPEC construction is complete, future industry growth will reach new heights.
- There are several risks to consider. Mainly, business competition and the organization's inability to arrange sufficient financing to fund working capital needs. The company also currently has a director's loan of Rs700mn, which could be converted to equity. Furthermore, a reversal in monetary policy and an economic slowdown could impact sales in the sector of automobiles resulting in a downside risk for the company.
- Nevertheless, the company's core business is in a strong position with components such as exhaust systems, radiators and sheet metal, and though BEVs pose a risk, their risk is minimal. The reintroduction of restrictions on non-local producers could impact the industry and companies negatively, but there seems to be little sign of this near-term future.
