Job Description

he Technical Operations Manager (TOM) is responsible for overseeing the technical operations of the electrical and manufacturing processes within the organization. This includes managing production systems, equipment, and personnel to ensure optimal operational efficiency, safety, and quality. The TOM will lead a team of technicians and engineers to maintain and troubleshoot machinery, improve manufacturing processes, and implement technical improvements while ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Operational Management:

  • Oversee the day-to-day technical operations of electrical and manufacturing processes, ensuring that production goals and KPIs are met.
  • Monitor and maintain manufacturing equipment, electrical systems, and automation technology, ensuring all are operating at peak performance.
  • Plan and coordinate preventative maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and maximize production output.
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical and mechanical issues, providing hands-on support to resolve problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Analyze production data to identify areas for optimization, propose technical improvements, and implement solutions.

2. Team Leadership:

  • Manage and lead a team of technical staff, including engineers, electricians, and maintenance technicians.
  • Provide direction, training, and mentorship to ensure high levels of skill, safety, and performance.
  • Create and manage work schedules, allocating resources effectively to meet production deadlines.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and support team members in their professional development.

3. Equipment & Systems Management:

  • Ensure the effective operation of electrical and manufacturing equipment, including troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Maintain and improve machinery, electrical systems, automation, and control systems to ensure consistent production quality.
  • Manage equipment installations, upgrades, and modifications, ensuring all changes are within scope and meet safety and compliance standards.
  • Review and recommend capital investments in equipment and systems to enhance operational efficiency.

4. Project Management:

  • Lead technical projects related to process improvements, system upgrades, and new product line installations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., production, quality assurance, supply chain) to ensure successful project implementation.
  • Ensure that all technical projects are completed on time, within budget, and in alignment with operational goals.
  • Oversee the project lifecycle from planning and budgeting to execution and final evaluation.

5. Compliance & Safety:

  • Ensure that all electrical and manufacturing operations comply with safety standards, environmental regulations, and industry certifications.
  • Lead efforts to maintain compliance with quality management systems (e.g., ISO, GMP) and other relevant standards.
  • Develop and enforce safety protocols for equipment use, maintenance, and electrical systems to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of all personnel.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and training sessions for the technical team.

6. Vendor & Contractor Management:

  • Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers, ensuring high-quality service delivery and adherence to contractual agreements.
  • Oversee procurement of electrical components, manufacturing materials, and service contracts, ensuring cost efficiency and quality.
  • Review and approve work performed by external contractors, ensuring it meets safety, quality, and budgetary standards.

7. Budgeting & Cost Control:

  • Assist in the preparation and management of the operational budget, focusing on equipment maintenance, repairs, and improvements.
  • Monitor operational costs and implement strategies for reducing costs, improving efficiency, and optimizing resource allocation.
  • Track expenses and report on cost-saving initiatives, such as energy efficiency improvements and equipment lifecycle management.

8. Continuous Improvement:

  • Implement and promote continuous improvement initiatives, including lean manufacturing and Six Sigma practices.
  • Encourage innovation in production processes and technology, fostering a culture of efficiency, quality, and sustainability.
  • Review production metrics and feedback, identifying areas for process improvements and collaborating with engineering teams to execute solutions.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Certifications in electrical systems, process optimization, or project management are highly desirable.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the electrical and/or manufacturing industry, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Proven experience in managing technical operations, including electrical systems, machinery, and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and safety regulations in the industry.

Technical Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, control systems, automation, and industrial machinery.
  • Familiarity with maintenance management systems, ERP software, and production management tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in diagnosing and resolving technical issues.
  • Experience in process optimization and continuous improvement methodologies, such as Lean or Six Sigma.

Leadership & Interpersonal Skills:

  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with a track record of motivating and guiding technical teams to success.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to collaborate effectively with internal teams, senior management, and external vendors.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with departments such as production, quality assurance, and supply chain.

Other Skills:

  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to analyze production data and identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and solutions to problems.
  • Knowledge of environmental and safety standards relevant to electrical systems and manufacturing operations.

Working Conditions:

  • This role requires regular on-site presence, with occasional travel to other facilities as needed.
  • Work environment may involve exposure to machinery, electrical systems, and manufacturing processes.
  • May be required to work extended hours or be on call for emergency situations.
