Role Purpose, DC/DR Hands & Feet Support Engineer - IT Operations & Infrastructure
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities, We are seeking a Level 1 (L1) Data Center (DC) and Disaster Recovery (DR) Hands & Feet Support Engineer to provide on-site assistance for hardware, networking, backup management, and troubleshooting. This role requires physical presence at the data center (DC) and disaster recovery (DR) sites to handle server installations, cabling, hardware replacements, and backup operations.

The ideal candidate should have a basic understanding of data center operations, backup tools, and troubleshooting methodologies while working under the guidance of senior engineers and remote IT teams.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide on-site support at Data Center (DC) and Disaster Recovery (DR) locations.
Perform physical hardware handling, including server racking, stacking, and unboxing.
Assist in cabling, labelling, and network connectivity checks for servers and network devices.
Conduct basic hardware troubleshooting, including reboots, power cycling, and visual inspections.
Coordinate with remote IT teams to execute instructions for troubleshooting and maintenance.
Perform regular health checks of infrastructure components, such as servers, storage, and networking devices.
Handle hardware replacements, such as disk swaps, power supply replacements, and memory upgrades.
Support tape library management, including loading/unloading tapes for backup operations.
Backup & Recovery Operations:
Monitor and verify backup jobs, schedules, and completion status.
Assist in restoring files and data from backup systems under supervision.
Support backup media management, including tape rotations and storage.
Help troubleshoot basic backup failures, such as job errors or scheduling conflicts.
Work with backup tools like Commvault, Veritas NetBackup, Veeam, Rubrik, or IBM Spectrum Protect (as per organization requirements).
Disaster Recovery (DR) Support:
Participate in DR drills and failover testing as per DR plans.
Assist in server power-ups, shutdowns, and connectivity tests during DR exercises.
Ensure DR documentation and inventory records are up to date.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Basic knowledge of data center operations and IT hardware components.
Familiarity with backup tools like Veeam, NetBackup, Commvault, or similar (training will be provided).
Understanding of network cabling, rack mounting, and hardware installation.
Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and instructions from remote teams.
Good troubleshooting skills for basic server, storage, and networking issues.
Ability to handle backup media (tapes, disks) and assist in data restoration.
Strong team coordination and communication skills to work with remote IT teams.
Preferred additional Skills and Abilities:
Experience with IT asset tracking tools and documentation.
Familiarity with ticketing systems (ServiceNow, Zoho, BMC Remedy, etc.).
Basic knowledge of Windows/Linux server environments.
ITIL awareness for incident and change management (preferred but not mandatory).
