Position Overview :

We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator to ensure the optimal performance, security, and reliability of our database systems. The ideal candidate will be adept at managing PostgreSQL environments and will play a crucial role in database performance management, security, and disaster recovery.

Key Responsibilities :

1. Database Performance Management :

- Ensure optimal query performance through tuning and optimization.

- Maintain efficient indexing strategies and manage database bloat.

- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide tuning recommendations.

2. Database Security :

- Enforce database access control policies.

- Implement encryption measures for sensitive data.

- Manage audit trails and logs to ensure compliance with security standards.

3. Backup and Recovery Management :

- Ensure regular backups are performed and recovery processes are tested.

- Monitor backup status to prevent failures.

- Define and execute recovery strategies in case of disasters.

4. High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) :

- Manage replication strategies, including streaming replication.

- Ensure high availability of databases with minimal downtime.

- Implement and test disaster recovery plans.

5. Database Monitoring and Alerting :

- Set up monitoring systems for database performance, uptime, and error detection.

- Respond promptly to alerts, mitigating issues before they impact users.

6. Capacity Planning and Scaling :

- Forecast future database growth and plan for necessary storage and performance scaling.

- Maintain database and table partitioning for efficient data handling.

7. Upgrade and Patch Management :

- Manage PostgreSQL version upgrades with minimal disruption.

- Keep the database updated with the latest patches and security updates.

8. Query Optimization and Tuning :

- Assist developers in writing optimized SQL queries.

- Monitor and optimize resource-heavy queries and jobs.

9. Documentation and Reporting :

- Maintain up-to-date documentation on database architecture, backup strategies, and configurations.

- Report on database health, performance, and incidents to stakeholders.

10. Collaboration with Development Teams :

- Support DevOps and development teams in schema design and database best practices.

- Collaborate on database change requests and schema migrations.

Qualifications :

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

- Proven experience as a Database Administrator, preferably with PostgreSQL.

- Strong understanding of database performance tuning, security, and backup strategies.

- Familiarity with database monitoring tools and alerting systems.

- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Skills :

- Experience with other database technologies (e.g., MySQL, Oracle) is a plus.

- Knowledge of scripting languages for automation (e.g., Python, Bash).
