Key skills for the job
1. Review all the welding documents (WPS, PQR, WPQR) according to AWS D1.1 correction and if needed prepare new with approval and stamped. (GMAW, SAW, SMAW) covering thickness from 3 mm to 60 mm.
2. Continuity Logbook signs
3. Instructing welders on the importance of welding processes.
4. Checking of welding instruments.
5. Review documents of NDT
6. Answer all the client queries pertaining to GMAW, SAW, SMAW.
Day to Day Activities
1. Review of requirements I.e. the product standard with supplementary requirements.
2. Technical review: a) Parent material specification & welded joint properties. b) The joint location with relation to the design requirement. c) Quality of acceptance standards. d) The location & sequence of welds with accessibility for inspection & NDT (Non- Destructive testing) e) Batch testing of consumption & welding requirements. f) The dimension & the details of joint preparation.
3. He has to monitor the qualification of welders & welding operator.
4. Equipment a) Suitability of welding equipment b) Identification of equipment and handling c) Personal protective equipment, safety equipment. d) Maintenance of equipment. e) Verification & validation of equipment
5. Production planning: Elements to be considered a) Reference to appropriate procedure. b) Sequence of welding. c) Environmental conditions. d) Allocation of qualified personal. e) Equipment for pre-heating.
6. Review of qualification of welding I.e. procedure of welding procedure specifications
7. Review work instruction& issue status.
8. Review of welding consumables & materials. a) Compatibility & delivery Conditions. b) Type of welding consumables. c) Storage & handling of consumables and parent material. d) Traceability of materials.
9. Inspection & testing before welding a) suitability & validity of welders and welding operator qualification Certificate b) WPS (welding procedure specification) c) Identification of weld consumables & parent material. d) Identification of joint preparation (weld) as well as jigs and fixtures. e) Special requirement if any. f) Work environment.
10. Inspection & testing during welding a) Welding parameters. (essential) b) Pre- heating /inter pass temperature. c) Cleaning, shape of runs & back gouging. d) Welding sequence. e) Handling of welding consumables & control distortion.
11. Inspection & testing after welding a) Use of visual inspection. b) Use of NDT and DT.
12. Non-conformances & corrective actions I.e. weld repairs
13. Calibration & validation of measuring instruments, inspection & testing equipment.
14. Identification & traceability a) Identification of production planning, route sheet, weld location, NDT Procedure, personal, welding consumables, parent material. b) Identification of repairs, welder & welding operators to specific welds c) Traceability of WPS
15. Quality Records. I.e. Process inspection etc.
16. From time to time may be asked to perform other duties outside of normal welding duties depending on the workload and company needs.
17. Comply with the companies ISO-9001-2008 policy on all aspects including, requisition of welding consumables.
18. The RWC has a responsibility to inspect and either pass or fail all welds on jobs Requiring EN 1090-2 as a welder at QPS you must respect and listen, if necessary, rework any welds that are not to specification
