Logistics Manager

Role Summary:

The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the transportation, storage, and distribution of iron ore and pellets from mining sites to processing plants, ports, and end customers. This role requires strategic planning to ensure cost-effective, timely, and efficient movement of bulk materials via road, rail, and maritime logistics. The incumbent will manage vendor relationships, negotiate freight contracts, ensure regulatory compliance, and implement best practices in supply chain management to minimize disruptions and maximize efficiency.

A strong understanding of logistics operations in the mining and steel industry, along with expertise in inventory control, export/import regulations, and safety protocols, is essential. The ideal candidate will drive process improvements, cost optimization, and technology adoption to enhance the overall logistics performance of the organization.

Role & responsibilities

Logistics and Supply Chain Management

• To plan and manage the efficient transportation of iron ore and pellets from mining sites to processing plants, ports, and customers.
• To oversee rail, road, and maritime logistics to optimize cost and delivery timelines.
• To monitor loading, unloading, and storage operations at ports and warehouses to prevent losses and ensure quality.

Vendor & Freight Management:

• To manage relationships with logistics service providers, shipping companies, and freight forwarders.
• To negotiate contracts with transporters, rail operators, and shipping lines for cost-effective and reliable movement of materials.
• To ensure compliance with regulatory requirements related to logistics and transportation.

Inventory & Warehouse Coordination:

• To ensure proper stock management and coordination between mines, pellet plants, and end-users to avoid supply chain disruptions.
• To optimize warehouse space and inventory levels to balance demand and operational efficiency.

Safety and Compliance:

• To ensure adherence to environmental, health, and safety regulations related to material handling and transport.
• To maintain proper documentation for customs clearance, export/import formalities, and government regulations.

Cost Optimization & Process Improvement:

• To identify cost-saving opportunities in logistics operations through route optimization and bulk shipment strategies.
• To implement digital tracking systems for real-time monitoring of shipments and logistics efficiency.

Preferred candidate profile

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's/Master's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering or related fields..
• Minimum 10 to 15 years of experience in Logistics, Supply Chain, or Transportation (preferably in Mining, Iron Ore, or Steel Industry).
• Proficiency in logistics software, ERP systems, and real-time tracking tools.

Technical Skills

• Experience in logistics, supply chain, or transportation management within the iron ore, mining, or steel industry.
• Strong understanding of rail, road, and port logistics for bulk materials.
• Familiarity with export-import regulations, customs procedures, and international shipping protocols.
• Ability to analyze supply chain risks and implement contingency plans.
