Safety Manager

Role Summary

The incumbent will play a critical role in ensuring a safe and compliant work environment in iron ore mining and pelletizing project. This position is responsible for risk assessment, regulatory compliance, safety training, and incident prevention to minimize workplace hazards and protect employees.

The role involves developing and implementing safety policies, conducting site inspections and audits, investigating accidents and near-misses, and ensuring adherence to occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations such as ISO 45001, OSHA, MSHA, or DGMS standards. The incumbent will collaborate with operations, maintenance, and leadership teams to embed a strong safety culture and continuously improve safety performance.

By leading safety training, emergency preparedness, and hazard mitigation initiatives, the Safety Engineer helps create a zero-incident workplace, ensuring operational efficiency and regulatory compliance in the mining and pelletizing sector.

Responsibilities

Safety Compliance & Risk Assessment:

• To ensure compliance with local, national, and international safety regulations related to mining and pelletizing operations.
• To conduct risk assessments, hazard identification, and job safety analysis for mining, processing, and transportation activities.
• To implement and maintain ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety Management System) and other industry standards.

Safety Training & Awareness:

• To develop and conduct safety training programs for employees, contractors, and site visitors.
• To promote a safety-first culture through awareness campaigns and toolbox talks.
• To train workers on emergency procedures, PPE usage, and accident prevention measures.

Incident Investigation & Prevention:

• To investigate accidents, near misses, and safety violations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
• Maintain safety records, reports, and documentation as per regulatory requirements.
• Ensure proper reporting of safety incidents to relevant authorities.

Site Inspections & Audits:

• To perform regular site safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
• To collaborate with operations teams to implement safety improvements in mining and pelletizing processes.
• To monitor and enforce the safe handling, storage, and transportation of hazardous materials.

Emergency Response & Crisis Management:

• To develop and maintain emergency response plans for mine sites and pellet plants.
• To conduct mock drills and evacuation exercises to test preparedness.
• To coordinate with medical teams and first responders in case of workplace injuries.

Preferred candidate profile:

• Minimum 10 to 15 years of experience in occupational health, industrial safety, and risk management (preferably in mining, iron ore, or steel industries).
• Candidate with Overseas experience will be given preference.
• Strong knowledge of mining safety laws, MSHA (for U.S.), OSHA, DGMS (for India), and ISO 45001.
• Ability to analyze incidents, conduct audits, and implement corrective actions.
• Familiarity with hazardous material handling, environmental regulations, and PPE standards.
