Job Description

This leadership role will be responsible for:
  • Developing and executing the organization s communication strategy to drive awareness, engagement, and advocacy for the issue of Child Sexual Abuse, in general, and for Arpan, as a brand.
  • Ensuring brand positioning, public engagement, media relations, and digital communications.
  • Managing internal and external communications across multiple platforms.
4. Major Deliverables Strategic Communication & Brand Building
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with organizational strategies.
  • Strengthen brand identity and ensure consistent messaging across all channels.
  • Identify and leverage key moments (e.g., awareness days, policy discussions, Arpan s programmatic work) to position Arpan as a thought leader.
Campaign Development & Storytelling
  • Design and execute integrated/360-degree Behaviour Change Communication campaigns.
  • Guide teams in producing high-quality and compelling visual and written content to enhance public engagement, including impact stories, social media campaigns, press releases, and reports.
  • Develop and track metrics to assess the effectiveness of communication efforts.
Media Relations & Public Engagement
  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists, influencers, and media houses to:
    • Increase coverage of child protection issues.
    • Position Arpan as a thought leader.

Digital & Social Media Strategy
  • Lead the organization s digital communications strategy, ensuring an effective presence across social media platforms, websites, and digital campaigns.
  • Analyse digital performance metrics to optimize impressions / reach and engagement.
Partnerships and Events
  • Enhance Arpan s visibility via relevant partnerships and participation in events.
  • Support other teams in their communication requirements such as design and collaterals, illustrations, audio-visual requirements.
Internal Communications / Practice related
  • Establish guidelines and frameworks to ensure all internal and external communications reflect the organization s values, tone, and branding.
  • Develop internal communication campaigns that foster a strong internal culture, including storytelling initiatives that highlight employee contributions and program impact.
  • Assist leadership in crafting internal messages, speeches, and presentations for town halls, staff meetings, and internal newsletters.
  • Develop crisis communication protocols to manage sensitive issues effectively.
Job Challenge
  • Ethical Considerations: Navigating complex narratives around a sensitive area such as child sexual abuse, striking the right balance between advocacy and ethical storytelling.
  • Resource Constraints: Maximising impact with limited budgets by adopting innovative, cost-effective communication strategies.
  • Behaviour Change Communication: Addressing child sexual abuse requires changing socio-cultural norms, which means designing campaigns today which will add up over a period.
6. Specialized job competencies
  • Knowledge / experience of behaviour change communication strategies.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with experience crafting content for diverse audiences.
  • Strong project management and team leadership abilities.
7. Educational Qualification Master s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field. 8. Desired Experience
  • Overall: 12-15 years of total experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Functional: 8-10 years of experience in designing integrated marketing and behaviour change campaigns, preferably in the development sector.
9. Other desired attributes
  • Internal and external stakeholder engagement and collaboration.
  • Experience managing lean teams and budgets, and working with external agencies.
