9 Interview questions

An Electrician was asked
Q. How do you calculate motor HP?
Ans.

Motor HP can be calculated using the formula: HP = (Torque x RPM) / 5252

  • Determine the torque and RPM of the motor

  • Use the formula: HP = (Torque x RPM) / 5252

  • For example, if a motor has a torque of 50 lb-ft and an RPM of 3,000, the HP would be (50 x 3000) / 5252 = 28.6 HP

An Electrician was asked
Q. How do you operate an air compressor?
Ans.

An air compressor works by converting power into potential energy stored in compressed air.

  • Check the oil level and drain the water from the tank before use

  • Connect the air hose to the compressor and the tool you want to use

  • Turn on the compressor and wait for it to build pressure

  • Adjust the pressure regulator to the desired level

  • Turn off the compressor and disconnect the air hose when finished

An Electrician was asked
Q. How do you calculate KVARH and KVA?
Ans.

KVARH and KVA can be calculated using different formulas based on the type of circuit and load.

  • For single-phase circuits, KVA = voltage x current x power factor

  • For three-phase circuits, KVA = voltage x current x 1.732 x power factor

  • KVARH is calculated by integrating the reactive power over time

  • KVARH = (KVAR x hours of operation) / 1000

  • KVAR can be calculated using the Pythagorean theorem: KVAR = sqrt(KVA^2 - KW^2)

An Electrician was asked
Q. How does power factor work?
Ans.

Power factor is the ratio of real power to apparent power in an AC circuit.

  • Power factor can be improved by using capacitors or inductors in the circuit.

  • A high power factor means more efficient use of electricity.

  • Low power factor can result in penalties from utility companies.

  • Power factor correction is important in industrial and commercial settings.

  • Power factor is measured on a scale of 0 to 1, with 1 being ideal.

An Electrician was asked
Q. What is the MIG/MAG welding machine?
Ans.

MIG/MAG welding machine is a type of welding equipment that uses a consumable wire electrode to create an electric arc for welding.

  • MIG stands for Metal Inert Gas while MAG stands for Metal Active Gas.

  • The machine uses a shielding gas to protect the weld from atmospheric contamination.

  • LT - Low Tension refers to electrical systems operating at voltages below 1,000 volts.

  • CT - Current Transformer is a type of instrument transformer used to measure alternating current.

  • HT - High Tension refers to electrical systems operating at voltages above 1,000 volts.

  • Examples: LT cables, CT meters, HT transformers.

An Electrician was asked
Q. What is the chock, Ingnetor, capacitor,?
Ans.

Chock, Ignitor, and Capacitor are electrical components used in various applications.

  • A chock is an inductor used to limit the flow of current in an electrical circuit.

  • An ignitor is a device used to ignite fuel in combustion engines or lamps.

  • A capacitor is an electrical component used to store energy in an electric field.

  • All three components are commonly used in lighting systems, power supplies, and electronic devi...

  • Used to reduce starting current and torque

  • Star connection for starting, delta connection for running

  • Commonly used in industrial applications

  • Requires a special motor starter

  • Reduces stress on motor windings

An Electrician was asked
Q. Dial starter connection diagrams?
Ans.

Dial starter connection diagrams are used to show the wiring connections for a dial starter.

  • The diagrams typically show the power supply connections, control circuit connections, and motor connections.

  • The power supply connections include the incoming power and the power going to the motor.

Why are women still asked such personal questions in interview?
I recently went for an interview… and honestly, m still trying to process what just happened. Instead of being asked about my skills, experience, or how I could add value to the company… the questions took a totally unexpected turn. The interviewer started asking things like When are you getting married? Are you engaged? And m sure, if I had said I was married, the next question would’ve been How long have you been married? What does my personal life have to do with the job m applying for? This is where I felt the gender discrimination hit hard. These types of questions are so casually thrown at women during interviews but are they ever asked to men? No one asks male candidates if they’re planning a wedding or how old their kids are. So why is it okay to ask women? Can we please stop normalising this kind of behaviour in interviews? Our careers shouldn’t be judged by our relationship status. Period.

  • Q1. Percentage of steel in pile
  • Ans.

The percentage of steel in a pile varies depending on the type and design of the pile.

    • The percentage of steel in a pile can range from 0% to over 90%.

    • The type of pile (e.g. steel, concrete, timber) and its design (e.g. diameter, length, wall thickness) determine the percentage of steel.

    • Steel piles typically have a higher percentage of steel than other types of piles.

    • The percentage of steel in a pile can also affect its...

  • Q2. Pile built-up above cut off level as per IS code
  • Ans.

Pile built-up above cut off level as per IS code

    • IS code specifies the maximum allowable pile length above cut off level

    • Pile length above cut off level should not exceed 3 times the pile diameter

    • Built-up pile above cut off level can cause structural instability and failure

  • Answered by AI
  • Q3. Pile vertical tolerance as per IS code
  • Ans.

Vertical tolerance for piles as per IS code

    • As per IS 2911-1:2010, the vertical tolerance for piles is +/- 25mm

    • This tolerance is applicable for both driven and cast-in-situ piles

    • The tolerance is measured at the top of the pile and at intervals of 3m along the length

    • If the deviation exceeds the tolerance limit, the pile may need to be rejected or remedial measures taken

  • Answered by AI
  • Q4. Pile concrete consumption +- tolerance
  • Ans.

Pile concrete consumption tolerance depends on various factors.

    • Pile diameter and length

    • Concrete mix design

    • Placement method

    • Quality control measures

    • Environmental conditions

    • Tolerance typically ranges from 5-10% of estimated consumption

    • Regular monitoring and adjustment of concrete consumption is necessary

  • Q5. Unit weight of steel
  • Ans.

Unit weight of steel is 7850 kg/m³

    • The unit weight of steel is the weight of a specific volume of steel

    • It is measured in kilograms per cubic meter (kg/m³)

    • The unit weight of steel is 7850 kg/m³

    • This value may vary slightly depending on the composition and manufacturing process of the steel
