Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Round 1: MCQs: tech + apti

Round: Other Interview
Experience: Round 2: Interviews; (a) Tech (b) HR

General Tips: It was a Good experience! Tech questions asked were not very difficult, nor too easy, exactly how an interview should be. They were chilled out but smart people. They didn't believe in stress interview, etc. but their questions were direct and logical.
Skill Tips: Don't go for books for last minute brush up. First go through the codes, (456,800). Also, for environmental- the lab manual! Books and Shri Hari notes would be too much for last hours, but the lab manuals have all the necessary and important procedures, and also limits of various pollutants/minerals as specified by the codes. Very helpful for last minute work. Sitaram sir's notes for soil mech should be sufficient. All these done, 1st round should be a cakewalk. Also, there is no harm in saying "I don't know", (not for all the questions of course!). Don't try to give round-about or approximate answers in tech interview. That is not appreciated. They don't expect you to know everything they ask. Just be polite and say "I don't know", but mention that you'll make it a point to learn and understand those topics before you join the company. (Limit State Design for SteelStructures is a big example. We're taught Working Stress, which is now obsolete except for bridge design. Just say that you were not taught, and that you'll read it on your own before you join!)
Skills: RCC Structures, Apti, Quantitative Aptitude, IS codes, Tech question

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: The test was in MCQ format for both technical and aptitude & general knowledge sections. The difficulty level was average. There were around 5 general knowledge/current affairs questions. About 15 quantitative aptitude questions and 20 technical questions from subjects taught till 6th semester. 11 out of 18 students were shortlisted for the next round.
Tips: Brush up your basics in all the major subjects. Refer quantitative aptitude books and practice every type of sums.
Duration: 1 hour
Total Questions: 40

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: All 11 shortlisted students were part of the same GD. We were given 5 topics out of which we had to decide on unanimously. All the topics were general/social in nature and not related to current affairs of the world. 10 mins are given after the selection of the topic to think and jot down the points. The first person to start speaking has to introduce the topic and then start to put his point. There should also be a consensus during the end.
Tips: Use your initial 10 mins well. Write down all the points for both for and against of the topic. You need not necessarily stick to one aspect. Don't speak too much or too less. Just the apt! Give chance to others as well but at the same time don't hesitate and hold yourself back. You can also say "I agree with this but I would also add.." or " I disagree with this point, I feel...". But these statements should be very polite.
Duration: 30 minutes

Round: Technical + HR Interview
Experience: 8 students out of 11 were shortlisted for this round. This round was individual interview by a panel of two of company's officials. They asked questions from different sections to all the students. Some of them were asked application based questions for example is it easier to dry clothes in hot and humid outside than in an air conditioned room, what is the use of psychrometric charts, is cooling tower efficient. In my case the questions were based on my internships. I did my internships from consultancies like Jacobs so they asked my about basic documents used in the those companies and also about my assignments that I did.
Tips: Basics are very important in this round and so is your internships, project(if any). Keep your mind open while answering, workout all the conditions in your mind related to the question.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: In the technical section there were 45 questions for which 30 mins were given. There were 3 subsections in Aptitude section: Analytical reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude and Verbal Ability. 25 questions in each subsection for which a total of 60 mins was given. Basic questions but conceptual in the technical section. There was separate cut off for each section as well as an overall cutoff.
Tips: Manage your time accordingly. For the technical round (mechanical students) prepare machine design, strength of materials, manufacturing technology properly.
Duration: 90 minutes
Total Questions: 120

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: It was not an elimination round. So, I was relaxed a bit. The topic was something we all think about but rarely discuss with friends. It went good for me. I spoke whenever I got a chance to and I feel the most important thing was being to the point and that our group had a proper discussion coming to a proper conclusion.
Tips: Stick to the basic rules of a group discussion. Do not panic in any condition. Do not speak a lot. Give others also a chance to speak. And most importantly do speak. Even if you are not confident at the start, try speaking and you will eventually gain confidence. And do not think if you are not good at English and all. Keeping your point of view is what you should focus on.
Duration: 30 minutes

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: It was quite good. I felt I did well in my interview. They were correcting me as well whenever I was wrong. Gave advices for life and the industry. I felt quite comfortable communicating with them as well.
Tips: Prepare atleast 2 favourite subjects thoroughly. Prepare the basic HR questions. Have good knowledge of your final year project and the training/internship. Again do not panic if u don't know the answers to some questions. You need not know the answer to each and every question. Be honest and be yourself. Do not try to fake. Do carry a smile throughout and if you are lucky enough you might get selected ;)

General Tips: Even if you do not get selected stay composed. A lot of companies come for recruitment and you just need a good day to get selected. It might have been one of those bad days at the office.
Skills: Technical Knowledge, Aptitude, Communication skills
College Name: NIT Surat
Motivation: It is the biggest engineering company in India (no.1). It gives me the site job that I actually wanted. I wanted to go production side and it gives me a chance to do that. Moreover during my training I would get to explore a number of other moments as well.
Funny Moments: When they asked me if I would go for further studies I simply said no and to the reason I said that I don't have an answer to this why to which they started laughing. Also, during the interview they cracked a few jokes which I didn't understand but I simply laughed along with them :P
