Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: All the questions were multi choice question. In technical sections there were 20 questions to solve in 30 minutes. Questions were mainly asked from core mechanical engineering. Questions were mainly asked from the thermodynamics , fluid mechanics, machine design , strength of material . very Few questions were asked from automobile engineering and manufacturing process. If your fundamental concepts are clear , this section is pretty easy . The students preparing for GATE will have an edge in this sections. This section is scoring and time is sufficient.
In aptitude section , you need to be little fast , otherwise you may miss some questions. Questions were of basic level. In Psychometric sections there were 50 questions in 20 minutes which were mostly designed to evaluate your behavior , personality , your attitude.
There were separate time allotted for each sections. However within the sections you were allowed to move.
Tips: For technical section focus on basics. Start prepare for this section , quite early as it will help a lot. Also there were some definitions and had to choose the exact property. For verbal aptitude , focus on vocabulary. For Psychometric section , you need to be really honest . Just true to yourself, don' fake , because you will not have enough time for that. Try to get your self noticed during pre placement talk. Maruti gives one of the best pre-placement talk. Ask some questions about company , its future or any thing specific in your mind. However don't ask absurd questions. My question was-
- After Volkswagen emission scandal ,How do you see the future of diesel cars in India, specially with respect to maruti?
Duration: 80 minutes minutes

Round: Presentation Round
Experience: For me this was the main deciding factor . You are given around 5-10 minute time for ppt. You have to explain why you chose technical career, why maruti suzuki , preferred clusters , your projects , achievements, extra curricular activities , hobbies etc. I prepared a lot for this section . They ask short questions about your ppt ( projects and anything they like or don't like ) during and after ppt, so be prepared for it. The questions they asked me was like:-
-How do you know that (some information) about company , I told them , for the last two and half months I was researching on company.
- Any other company , For which I have appeared for placement.
- Where do I want to see myself in next 5 years?
- What is booster jet engine?
- Do you have any specific plans , which I want to apply in maruti.? I told them about booster jet engine , which was designed by suzuki . I told them that I want to work towards the designing of aluminum alloy car body for maruti . They asked had any other company have done it . I tole them about Jaguar , Aston Martin and ford.
Tips: Research as much as possible about the company , its products , its culture , its core value , its policy . This will help a lot . Try to keep your presentation short and concise . Don't bore them . Highlight your projects and achievement well. If you have done summer intern at maruti , it will help a lot ( My friend's case) .
This is the main round for selection , after that interview is mostly a cakewalk. So use your energy for this round. Try to leave some good impression during ppt.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: Questions were mostly asked from my summer projects , so learn everything about them . They went deep in summer projects. However with some of my friends , they didn't asked questions from projects. I also had done some extra courses about joining of materials , failure of materials , Catia , pro e . They asked questions about them. However with many of my friends , they asked mostly from automobile engineering , trusses , refrigeration , manufacturing processes , engineering graphics and so on.
Tips: Prepare for maruti wll ahead for 2-3 months, Specially for the technical section. Give your best , leave rest on ALMIGHTY.

General Tips: Start Preparing for aptitude and technical sections during 3rd year itself. Also build up your communication and speaking skills. Do your summer projects with honesty and be clear about them.
Skills: Project And Internship, Thermodynamics, Mechanical Behavior Of Materials, Reasoning Power And Aptitude, Technical Skill, 1)communication

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: The criterion for selection were:
-75% aggregate overall
-70% in each of the preceding 6 semestors
-No gap year after class 12 or otherwise
Tips: Focus on academics throughout college life irrespective of what your peers or seniors may tell you. Every company keeps a cut off.

Round: Test
Experience: The test had two sections:
-45 questions of technical aptitude
-45 questions of Quant/Verbal/LR

The technical questions covered: Strength of materials, thermodynamic, heat and mass transfer, refrigeration and Air conditions, IC engines, Fluid systems.
A lot of numericals were asked. Theory was given lesser weight.

Quant and Verbal were above average as compared to other companies however much below MBA entrances (as inferred from talks with several colleagues)

Tips: Since the company visits right at the beginning of the placement session right after summer internship, there is little time to brush up on your coursework if you didn't do it already. Instead you could steal a march on other students by ensuring you devote a larger part of your test to quantitative part as it is often the difference creator between students.
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
Total Questions: 90

Round: Technical + HR Interview
Experience: They were interested in the practical application of both my projects and their replicability in real life at minimal cost. They even discussed how I could install those systems at my home, what would be the efficiency and output. They were also interested in the designing aspect and operating parameters (and simulations work from MATLAB, CFD, ANSYS was not focussed at)

No coursework theory questions/derivations etc were asked.

I told them about my leadership positions at college level and asked them about different departments at the company and procedure of switching between them.

The interview was a pleasant and thought provoking experience.
Tips: It is advantageous to have research papers or being a part of a technical team (however even students without either of them were selected too).

Prepare common questions like strengths, weaknesses, about yourself.

Read the website of company thoroughly and mention testimonials from the site in your interview for a lasting impression.

And most importantly, your projects give you leverage in the interviews so be thorough with them.

College Name: Delhi Technological University, Delhi

I applied via Campus Placement and was interviewed in Dec 2016. There were 4 interview rounds.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Technical questions were based on IC engines, dome, strength of materials and few questions related to turbo-machines. Basically they covered almost every core topic. They are not based on bookish knowledge rather questions were related to practical applications.
Aptitude- this part is very important and is the deciding round. Try to score as high as possible in this section.
Tips: Practice aptitude, pariksha tests will serve the purpose.
Technical- apart from brushing all your core concepts, also go through sample mechanical engineering test questions on internet.
Duration: 45 minutes

Round: Technical + HR Interview
Experience: Interview was completely technical. They asked me what were my projects and internships and which was the favorite one. Make sure u know everything about your project/internship. If it is IC Engines related they will grill u on that. Mine were on heat transfer (jet impingement cooling) and turbomachines. They asked me to explain about them.

They asked me about the ic engines lab experiment which was on emissions and asked me to draw the emission characteristics (co, Hc, NOx).
Other questions were related to porous media (my Btech project), cruising and idling conditions and air/fuel ratios, emission norms in India etc
Tips: Make sure in every explanation u give u should highlight the R&D aspect of it. They were particularly looking for people interested in R&D.
Brush all the core topics, especially IC engines. If you did any work related to ic engines they will ask u on that, else they will test your subject knowledge.
Also learn something about the latest technologies in automobiles and how bajaj contributed to them.
