• They want to know how you proceed for a question
• Time was given to write the solution on paper so that can be explained properly
• 1 question was to tell them an algorithm to find loop in a linked list.
• Given a real number line with two fixed integers on it and many more line segments lying on the number line tell an algorithm to find whether a given segment lies on the segment formed by the 2 fixed integers on the line.

4 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Questions were asked from following topics:
• VLSI (concentrate more) : setup time, hold time , propagation delay ( EE619 must be read carefully , recommended book : Rabaey )
• Information theory ( unexpectedly ) : Information and coding theory
• Digital & analogue circuits
• Signal processing
• No questions were asked from electrical portion.
• A question was asked on cache memory concept and was almost asked in many companies.
• There were questions related to flip-flops, gates, laches, FSM these topics must be thorough.
Tips: This test was dependent on the amount of practice you've done. Since, for 60 questions 1 hour time is quite less so you must have your strategy under your sleeves. I was more towards technical side so I first completed the technical part in first 50 min. and then attempted 40-50 % aptitude portion. There were two profiles of R&D Software and Hardware engineer.
Duration: 60 minutes
Total Questions: 20+40

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: The panel was of 5 (2 software engineers, 2 hardware engineers, 1 HR manager) and duration was 45 minutes.
Questions were asked on:
• Bug converter
• What are enhancement and depletion type and MOSFETs?
• setup time, hold time , propagation delay
• Verilog HDL : blocking assignment vs. non-blocking assignment
• Which optimization approach do we follow while writing a code in HDL high level to low level or low level to high level?

General Tips: • For aptitude test your speed must be really fast.
• Before applying in the companies you must know do want to do core job or non-core job.
• EE 619 should be thoroughly studied.
• It is not necessary to answer the question correct at the first time but you must continuously think for the answer and must correct yourself with proper logic.
• You should not give ambiguous answers and must know to say don’t know when you really don’t know the answer.
Skills: Digital and analogue parts of VLSI, Digital circuits , Computer Network, Control Systems and Analysis , microprocessors

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Form-BASED
Experience: Initially they sent a form which contained 4-6 HR questions like: Short term and long term goals, One instance where you put mind over matter?

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: Second topic was: There is a group of ministers which are rating the solutions of power source like wind power etc. You have to give your rating and then discuss it. 8 people were present.
Tips: 1. No shouting.

2. Come up with a proper point.

3. They prefer quality of your solutions.

4. There is no right or wrong answer in GD.

5. Main point is that how you are supporting your points.

6. If you are able to put useful data or statistics to prove your point in GD then it is highly recommended.

7. During GD of ITC, we did not need to match our rating with group rating which was a misunderstanding. We need to defend our points.
Duration: 30 minutes

Round: Interview
Experience: It was of 30 minute duration and had a panel of 3 persons.
Tips: Some students were asked to design gates? For such gates design questions, books like MANOKIND of digital logic is useful.

Round: Interview
Experience: There were also tricky HR questions were which did not have any right or wrong answer. You just need to remain positive while defending your point . It lasted 45 minutes and had a panel of two people.

General Tips: 1. Write answers in their form very seriously because they grill more on your answers.
2. They remain concern about technical knowledge. So, prepare your core courses very well.

5 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: There were some basic questions on probability theory, digital communication (mainly wireless communication, like problem on GSM, CDMA, and OFDM). Some questions were from DSP (like DFT etc.). Basics of information theory (EE 624) should be clear; there were some questions on calculating capacity of a Gaussian channel, differential entropy etc. A single problem from C programming was there and it was very simple.
Two sections : 1) VLSI 2) Communications

For VLSI stream we had to solve only the first section.

Type of questions and details :
Questions were a mix of digital and analog.
Most of the questions were on digital logic design.
1) Given a current mirror circuit we had to identify and calculate what is the current through one MOS Transistor.
2) Question on timing analysis-setup time, hold time ----this very important---you have to be very clear in this concept. Frequently asked.
3) Question on Op Amp. It was an integrator …had to calculate output voltage.
4) Many questions were on logic design.
5) Questions on devices like if doping increased, how would the other parameters vary..?
Duration: 60 minutes
Total Questions: 30

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: View 1: He asked me most of the questions on my thesis and my previous projects and term papers (related to wireless communication). I was also asked about viterbi decoders, OFDM and MIMO (my thesis was on MIMO).
View 2: Questions were mostly on timing analysis.

General Tips: One should try to keep himself focused during the whole time of written test and interview. Basics of probability theory and communication theory should be very clear.
Skill Tips: Be well prepared with both digital and analog. You must know Verilog.

5 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: Mostly Solid Mechanics profiles were shortlisted.
Tips: Actually, they were looking for experienced people, who already have a job experience of a year or two. Though they asked for a written test initially but later on, them shortlisted the candidates based on. They were keen to take students who had some kind of job experience (for MTech candidates) or internship.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: First I introduced about myself, my family background, my hobbies and my qualities. I told them that I like to travel a lot and gave an example as when I was in Europe I travelled some 6-7 countries even I had to spend my own money. Since they were first time in the campus so they didn’t know about foreign internships. They were fascinated by the fact that I have international exposure. They asked about my purpose of being in Europe. I told them about internship, they liked it and asked questions related to that as of who paid for you and the university.
Tips: It helps if you asked some questions to them during presentation or interview, they value and remember it. I asked a question during presentation and about the job location during interview. When I asked them this question in interview then they told me that you were the guy who asked one question during presentation.
Finally they asked me if I would be comfortable in Chennai. I replied them positively this time.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: Thesis: They wanted to know how my work and thesis could be of their use. It was related to polymer and I told them it will be of help in seat chamber design. You should be able to convince them that whatever you are doing is of use to them. I was working in Abacus. They were impressed with this and asked if I am asked to work on Ansys, Fluent, will I be able to do so. I gave them a positive reply.
Project: They were highly impressed with one of my projects on “Adamas” which I did in my 2nd year. This was the thing which they were looking for. They asked some technical questions as how did you simulate the track and where did you apply force. I answered their questions with confidence and they were impressed. You may like to give priorities to your projects based on company profile and requirement. So by this time they were very impressed by me and I was kind of getting the feeling that they will hire me.

General Tips: Do ask questions to them during interview or presentation in a different fashion, may be related to your job profile or anything which is bothering you.
Skill Tips: Organize mock GD's in wings.
Prepare some common HR questions like “Tell me about yourself”, strengths and weakness, your hobbies and prepare this question in written.
Skills: Basic behavioural questions.
