2 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: interview
Experience: The interview was mainly based on my projects that I have written in my resume. Finally, the interviewer after knowing about my projects says my profile is interesting and it portrays that I am really interested in my field (video processing, computer vision, etc.). The profile for which they came was Distributed computing profile. He said that although he is not obligated to say but Xerox does not do good work in Video Processing and I have much more knowledge than what is required to work in Xerox in the image processing division so I should go for a PhD and if I want to work in industry go for other firms that do good work in my field.

My interview experience with Xerox guys was interesting in the sense. He was an IITK alumnus so he was kind of concerned that I should not go for a wrong career path, hence he gave me a lot of points on life. I also reciprocated and chatted with them for an hour or so.

2 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Interview
Experience: They asked to write 2 codes on recursion. Then some questions on resume. I asked them about the job profile and after knowing that they were hiring candidates for frontend programming, about which they didn’t mention in JAF. I told them that I was not interested in frontend development. And didn’t even answer any question after that. Unfortunately, I was selected.

General Tips: Plan your schedule judiciously keeping your capacity in mind. There is no point of making ideal plans and then not able to do even 50% of it.
Don’t get into unnecessary arguments or debate with people.
Don’t think about what others are doing. Focus on your preparation.
How you carry yourself matters. So, make sure you portray yourself in the way you want the other person to perceive you.
Be selective while applying for companies.

6 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: The test included General quantitative and logical reasoning, verbal reasoning, questions on basic topics of Mechanical Engineering like Thermodynamics, Mechanics of Solids, Energy Systems, Manufacturing etc.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: Advanced questions on the topic of your interest specifically related to Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering like Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Turbo-machinery etc, questions like what do you know about the company.

General Tips: Always follow your interest while choosing a suitable job. If you are not sure about your interest, keep options open and try to get information on all those options and select accordingly. Never run after money only. One must prioritize his/her interests first, then the kind of work in the company and then the package.
Prepare for the technical profiles by studying core subjects which interests you the most, but a person needs to have basic knowledge of other topics related to your department also.

Apply for the company only after gaining sufficient knowledge about it. Identify your interest and what kind of work you like, then apply to the company which suits your style of working and is apt for you to pursue your interests. One must not apply to all the companies just because everyone is applying. One must judge whether he/she is capable for that job or not and then decide in which companies to apply.
Try to be confident with your answers and give genuine replies in HR interviews. One must not give vague answers and change views as this would clearly give the indication that you are not able to give clear answers or you are making them up.

4 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: 10 candidates shortlisted through aptitude test (50 ques in 12 min, cut off was 50).
Duration: 12 minutes minutes
Total Questions: 50

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: 1st interview was technical with some general HR questions. I related the work done in internships to the work being done in the snapdeal company. I was asked if I had any other interview to which I replied flipkart. He then asked me why snapdeal and not flipkart. I had studied everything about the 2 companies and was thus able to defend my choice. Next he gave me some puzzles, I did all with little inputs from him. I was asked to wait for 2nd interview and not go to Flipkart GD but I went anyway.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: This interview round was again technical. This time there were 2 panellists and they again gave me 4-5 puzzles, which I did successfully. I was asked to wait for a HR interview.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The HR interview was just a formality, he explained me my responsibilities in the organization and made me a spot offer.

General Tips: 1. Pre placement preparation is very important. Begin early and try to distribute time to all the areas especially your shortcomings.
2. Try to remain calm and confident in the interview.
3. Do not cram up the answers to hr questions or puzzles.
4. There are plenty of companies with handsome compensation. Just give your best in preparations and interviews.

5 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Duration: 30 minutes
Total Questions: 35

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: One mini calculative case interview and 2 major calculative

General Tips: Don’t relax too much and do prepare religiously inspite of whether or not your wingie or close friend is taking placements seriously. Also, do help out your wing mates once you are done with yours. There is no better joy than seeing a close friend landing up a dream job. Most importantly, never lose hope. This comes from a 7.1 who failed to make into the shortlists of every company for internships and still landed a job within the first 3 hours on the first day. Just keep believing you’ll do well and you would.

2 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Puzzle Interview
Experience: Just some basic puzzles like: Given 100 doors all closed if you toggle the state of all multiples of 1 then toggle the state of the multiples of 2 and so on… which doors will be finally open; Given points in a plane describe a data structure to find points within 1 km radius of any given input point; (since I had done regression analysis course) Find the Best linear unbiased estimate of parameters in a linear regression model; Basics of Convex Optimization; Spaghetti Puzzle : find expected number of loops in a spaghetti bowl with n strands if you randomly choose 2 ends and join them together; (this one was a tough one and I struggled a bit while solving this …. But the good this is that the interviewer helps you) Given a pile of n stones you randomly divide it into 2 stacks and multiply the size of the 2 stacks and note the value. Every time you divide the stack you multiply the sizes of the 2 stacks and then note the value. Then sum up all these values. What will this value be? (Ans: n(n-1)/2). There were a total of 5 rounds.

General Tips: Remain calm because things like pre scheduling of interviews can happen and you shouldn’t let that affect you since you have prepared too much for this moment and now is not the time to panic.

Try to surround yourself with friends and maintain a positive attitude. Be friendly with the SPO representatives because they’ll help you A LOT with the interview scheduling. Don’t rush the interview and take your time.
Start your preparation early. Placement is 90% preparation and 10% luck.

4 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: The technical interview included a VP round which was more of a resume round. I concentrated my interview (VP round) on Machine learning which my field is. This was kind of a trick because many people screwed up this round. Hence, VP offered to me to work in VISA HQ.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: This technical round included questions from almost all topics of CS (SQL query, coding, Networks, Security, Hadoop and Map-Reduce).

General Tips: Do’s :
1) Start right from August
2) Prepare basics of subjects
3) Try to code using pen and paper
4) Code as many problems as you can from all domains with only 1 language (C/C++/Java)
5) Keep a friend with you at all times during interviews. If you are selected for more than 1
companies in 1 slot, ask your friend to manage your interview schedules given he knows your
priorities. I was not in a position to attend more than 2 interviews in the same slot.

Don’ts :
1) Don’t lose hope if you are not shortlisted for your dream company or any company of your choice because being an IITian you have large number of better choices and which would fit in your profile better.
2) Don’t argue with the interviewers and never pretend that you are over smart in a given domain.
3) Do not take HR rounds lightly even if you are sitting for CS companies.

Final Tips :
Start your preparation early. Placement is 90% preparation and 10% luck.

4 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: The test had 2 questions. One was doing subtraction/addition manually (Huge numbers so cannot cast them into any primitive type) and the other one was simple DP.
Total Questions: 2

Round: Other Interview
Experience: First Round was based on an algorithm and sample implementation (pen &paper). They were conducting rounds by the clock. Exactly 30 minutes each. Problem was a little complicated but not difficult. As far as I remember everyone got through that round.

Round: Other Interview
Experience: Second round was totally based on Systems. First they asked me to explain a couple of things on my resume. Secondly the conversation went to my projects. After that the interviewer asked me design problems. Design a URL Shortener. Design Thread Safe implementation of HashMap, etc., etc. I think this was their main criterion. They wanted people for systems related profile.

Round: Other Interview
Experience: Third round was again based on algorithm. (Minimum number of dice throws to complete of snakes and ladders). But it was more informal that the first couple of round. I gave a solution. He asked me to improve it. Gave me hints on the way. In the end we chatted a little about placements in general, interests, etc.

General Tips: Do's :
Keep cool and keep an open mind. UNDERSTAND the package breakup to make better informed
decisions.

Don’ts :
Don’t lose your nerve, no matter what. Shit happens (happened all the time to me), things don’t
happen as expected but remember whatever it is “IT TOO SHALL PASS”. Don’t get fixated on any
company.

Final Tips :
1. Relax.
2. Learn to read the package details (ask companies for it if they don’t give it)
3. Don’t come under peer pressure while applying to companies. Remember you don’t want to join
all the companies that come on Day 1 Slot 1. There were far better companies (from my point of
view) coming at a later stage.
4. Some Indian tech companies are really doing a great job. Nutanix, InMobi & BrowserStack are
some I can think of and because of them being here you would actually be working on great stuff as
opposed to other MNC offices in India.
5. At the same time there are some Indian startups you really wouldn’t want to join. Keep an eye out for them too.
