The overall culture of the company is good. Employees are helpful and the HRBP personnel do pay attention to employee problems. As a publishing firm, Packt is a good place to learn the nitty-gritties of the publishing and eLearning industry. Luckily, I was blessed with the best team and managers in the beginning. There are great learning opportunities if you are ready to take the ownership and show probable interest. The first and foremost thing that will be a challenge while working here is Job security and Employment Stability. The layoffs are so often that after a point of time either you stop worrying about them or only start focusing on 'Would I have a job tomorrow?' For my entire time at Packt, there was not even a single month where I didnot hear that they have laid off employees. The second thing that is of high concern is the compensation offered. You might start with a decent salary, but keep in mind that there are high chances that you would be working on the same salary for the next 2-3 years. The company has no annual increment policy. You would only get a meager increment if and when you get promoted. Now, this leads to a third problem, where you cannot expect a promotion or even apply for one until you have completed 12 months in the organization. That too after 12 months, the actual promotion procedure completes in somewhat 6-10 months. So basically, you can expect yourself to be working on the basic compensation for at least 2 years. The company has no loyalty toward its employees. Your career might show an upward trajectory, but in terms of higher designation, growth, and compensation you will always be stagnant. Apart from this, there is a very strange policy of changing teams and designations, and every time you go through any of these changes you will have to face a probation period. This constant change brings you back to a place where you started from, waiting for 12 months again for a promotion or increment. Fun place to work, good colleagues, can wear any kind of clothes, can work from home without actually working.

Management team, no guidance, no support, no learning, poor training programs, kids in the HR team with no maturity, becomes a government office as in fans are used because AC not working and the environment becomes sweaty, difficult to work, senior managers sleeping in meeting rooms, staff breaching processes, management always fools top team and does not give them real picture....Read More

One can maintain a very good work life balance being at Packt and also learn managing ones work. But that can be done in a much better way at some other company as well. This is a Technical publishing company, so if someone is thinking about going here and learning Technical stuff, then this a big no no for a technical editor. Yes highly recommended for someome who wants to be a manager or something as such, and should obviously apply for a project manager....Read More

The company has a very poor pay for the technical editors and even if you work hard, still you cannot earn a promotion within a years time. Earning a promotion will take more than 1 and a half or may be 2 years and even after getting a promotion you wont get a good salary in the end because the company doesn't expect people to stay here for more than a year. Even if you leave no one will try to stop you and its not the right place to be. Yes you can have a good work life balance but what will you do of such work if you cant learn or earn anything. Also none of the other companies accept experiences of this company as this is a publishing company and no web development or app development jobs will consider your experience from here. People try to be professional here but I think people here are BPO sort of employeess. So I dont recommend this company at all for the one's who are looking for a career in the technical field. Can maintain work life balance. A good company for managers and publishers(who are the managers of the normal managers). But I dont recommend going here for a Technical editor role of any role having editor written in it. Go for a managerial role.

Packt follows a open culture, where you have freedom to work independetely, you can take decision of your own. But few top team and team leaders has spoiled the culture of office environment. HR (Business Partners) could not take a right decision and the leaders are taking advantage of this mismanagement.

There is no growth plan in the company, nor any Job security, few team needs to work 12 to 14 hours in a day. No appreciation from Managers. They have stopped appraisal and started COL., which is most dissatisfaction amongs the employee. As far as Learning concerns, you will get good opportunity to learn more skills</mark>. thats the only one parameters which I liked very much in the company....Read More
