Working as a Store Manager at Biba Fashion Limited has been a challenging experience due to several concerning factors. The lack of work-life balance, including the inability to take week-offs, adds significant stress to the role. Additionally, the internal politics permeating from bottom to top levels exacerbate the already demanding environment. One of the most glaring issues is the inadequate manpower provided for a sizable store space of large sqft spread across multi floors. This understaffing not only contributes to operational inefficiencies but also increases the risk of unknown shrinkage, for which the burden falls unfairly on employees who face deductions from their salaries. Moreover, the incompetence of the merchandise department compounds problems, with frequent mismatches and discrepancies in stock management. The necessity to record everything via video to resolve discrepancies further highlights systemic issues. Delays in response to submitted evidence exacerbate frustrations, with resolutions taking months, during which audits are conducted, and shrinkage deductions are arbitrarily made without proper investigation or consideration of employee input. The situation is exacerbated by questionable practices within the organization, including the dubious actions of auditors whose involvement in booking shortages raises concerns about integrity and fairness. Furthermore, the inadequacies extend to the HR department, which exhibits poor recruitment practices and fails to address staffing shortages in a timely manner, leaving stores understaffed and overburdened. The absence of essential support functions such as visual merchandising and finance teams at the regional level reflects broader organizational shortcomings, contributing to the challenges faced by store managers nationwide.
