Work Hours Debate: Productivity vs. Burnout?
The conversation around work hours in India is heating up!
It started with Infosys founder Narayana Murthy advocating for a 70-hour workweek, followed by L&T Chairman S.N. Subrahmanyan, who went even further, suggesting a 90-hour workweek and wishing employees worked on Sundays too.
On the other side, Capgemini CEO Ashwin Yardi proposed a more balanced 47.5-hour workweek, stressing structured workdays and a no-weekend-email policy.
Many industry leaders have weighed in:
🔹 Akasa Air CEO Vinay Dube “If I don’t work 70 hours, how can I expect youngsters to?” He champions work-life balance.
🔹 Nasscom Chairperson Sindhu Gangadharan, It’s about quality of work, not hours clocked.
🔹 Marico CEO Saugata Gupta, Work-life balance matters, but admits to late-night emails.
The big question: Do long work hours drive success, or do they lead to burnout?
What’s your take? Should we work harder or smarter? 👇
