Monthly Expenses!

I'm curious about what it takes to maintain a middle-to-upper-middle-class lifestyle for a family. How much do you all typically spend each month on the following: Rent or Mortgage: How much do you shell out for your home? Groceries and Food Entertainment: How much do you spend on movies, outings, and other fun activities? Medical Expenses: What are your average healthcare costs? Travel: How often do you travel, and what does it cost? Do you have any other regular expenses, like gifts, electronics, or utilities? Let's share our experiences and get a better idea of what it takes to live comfortably.

Our monthly expense is around 80-90k per month including 3 domestic travels 1 of which is to our hometown (providing the increasing flight cost it is easily 6-8k pm) Our major is rent for a spacious 3 BHK in a big society. Then it is house help. Son has yet to start a mainstream school so his school cost (he goes to a local Montessori school - nursery) is not much right now. - total is around 50k Rest goes to grocery, entertainment, day trips, fuel, medical and miscellaneous. We consciously try to maintain a simple lifestyle. Since I do not like to go to shopping malls and restaurants and my wife is aligned with my lifestyle choices we have minimal expenses regarding eating out and purchases. But we do buy premium vegetables and fruits and ghee and spices - preferably organic. We try to play with the kid outside so we don’t buy expensive toys for him as well. We cook ourselves and don’t order outside food much. Once we move to our apartment I feel we could bring the expenses down to 50k.

1 kid, not kids, going to a good private CBSE school. No rent/Emi, own house. Rest all checks out. We spend 80k-100k on an average. Tier 1 city. Car is a petrol guzzler 6 seater elephant. 6-8k a month. Maid for utensils & cleaning. Cook for cooking meals. 8k a month. Groceries - we do eat good things. Fruits - best of the lot. Never care about prices there. We buy from the weekly mandi though, not on Zepto. But still, vegetables and fruits is almost 8k a month. Rest of the groceries - 10k I guess? We eat like biryani rice on daily basis (120/ kg ones). I'm talking things like dates, granola, epigamia. Blue Tokai coffee, not instant. You get the drift. School fees - 20k. Rest is clothes, shopping. We do 1-2 domestic trips an year and 1 international. How do I know all this? We got married 9 years ago and both of us are earning and my wife is a developer .We have been writing all our expenses in a Google sheet from day 01. I can tell you how much did I recharge my/ wife's phone with in October 2015 because we've a record. Nothing fancy, just date, expense name and amount. We review it every 6 months to see where are we spending, what is unnecessary and should be cut. Although our incomes have risen and we're more than comfortable, it's just fun to review and plan expenses. Hope it helped :)
