An Assistant Manager
I'm not sure what to make of this.
I had my final interview a month ago, and my manager said I'm one of their top candidates. But they also mentioned they're not hiring right away and asked if I needed a job immediately.
It's a weird mix of good news and uncertainty. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Any advice on how to navigate this?

Waiting is the worst! I remember it took 9 months to get hired for this one position and I kind of forgot about it till they contacted me later.

Keep looking you owe no loyalty to potential employer (if you really need a job). If you are in one then wait it out.
I personally keep looking. Until a contract is signed and start date confirmed I’m not off the market. They can interview endlessly. Don’t burn any bridges. Play it cool.

Not a good sign. Move on. They don’t need anyone right away, the hiring manager specifically said they’re shopping indirectly.

They have internal process issues or they do not have budget approved. This is at best a yellow flag if not red.

Sounds to me like they’re planning a layoff and need people in line to fill those spots . Interviewing and not hiring is always suspicious to me

Companies fail to communicate the real intent behind the recruitment. If they really need someone, then in less than 72 hours, you do have the offer you sought . For positions that can wait, they deliberately try to find the best one under the budget, so in many cases, they do not care about even informing candidates. This practice must go, and a contentment in hiring needs to take place.hence a candidate waiting for the result (hired or not) need to be informed at the earliest. As they can move to other job positions.
Also, for candidates, it's better not to focus on one pending offer, even if it's your dream company. Keep trying till you get one on your terms. MY 2 CENTS ON THIS TOPIC
