How will you feel?
How will you feel when you get to know your junior teammate whom you have trainer and given KT is actually earning more than you?
I am switching job and when one of my teammate got to know about it he disclosed his salary to ask me company switching advice so now even before joining my new organisation and even after getting almost 80 percent hike I am feeling am under paid.
I am feeling my junior is kind of 2 to 3 years ahead with just 1 year experience and me with a Mtech and 3.5 years experience feel like am under paid. How can I handle this situation

Don't be too jumpy about others' salary. You avoid such conversations. Some junior is always going to be earning more than you. You can't let it get to your head.

I keep saying, just doing the work is not enough. You have to advocate for your work
Keep your relevant Slack/teams channels notified of the work you are doing
Instead of DMing, see if that same message can be posted in the channell and tag the guy and your Manager

[majnubhai](username) I agree, Doing more work of the same level is almost irrelevant to your promotion. You should be taking more ownership and responsibility of the next level, rather than work load of your present level.

You don't need to switch if you feel like the job you're doing is interesting and lots of learning is involved . Get a decent offer you wish, and ask them to match it.

Have you checked where your current salary stands withing the pay range for your experience? I wouldn't be too bothered if my salary landed higher than average.

You don't have all the details. Your teammate's salary might be an outlier, or they might have negotiated aggressively.

See what he has an you don't. I think our juniors usually have better conversation skills and confidence (by the virtue of their youth). If you identify that, then work on those.

[gurugrind](username) TBH his and my communication skills are at same level.
I broke my head what more has my company have seen in them to pay that high salary
They are basically freshers and not from IIT or NIT. I can still accept IIT and NIT students getting paid high
I just need to stop comparing and work on myself

I have learnt that not comparing is the best thing. There is just one question you need to answer - “Do you think you are getting fairly compensated for the work you do?” If yes, stay and be happy. Else, switch.

Don't dwell on comparisons. Your self-worth isn't defined by your teammate's salary

His salary is higher than mine in my current organisation which am about to leave. But if he switchs now and hypothetically speaking if he get just 50% hike in his new company he will have same salary as mine in my new company.

[evmaniac](username) Talk to your line manager, don't bring up your junior or senior's salary, just say you feel you are underpaid with respect to market for your seniority and responsibilities, by x%. Gauge their response give sometime to then to see if something happens. Then plan your switch if you are not happy.

Trust me, this is their way of replacing old talent with new. They very well know that the news will spread. And, they do this more often than we think.

It's natural to feel undervalued or upset. You invested time and energy training your teammate, and their higher salary can be a blow.

It's okay to feel undervalued. Take some time to process your feelings. And then Invest your energy into learning and succeeding in your new position. This sets you up for future raises and promotions.

Bro, comparison is biggest enemy.
If you don't feel satisfied then do something about it either change the company or Upskilling yourself.
Because alway there will be someone in your team who will earning more than you.

First of all, don't trust what people tell you. Most people inflate their salaries. Check what's the average salary for your role and experience on this platform and others too. And, make sure you land on the higher end of the range.

Yaar lekin chorne se pehle do make sure that you have a conversation about the situation with your manager, skip manager, and HR if possible and put hold them accountable for your resignation.

Focus on your own growth journey and the valuable skills you bring. Use this as motivation to negotiate confidently in your new role. Your experience and qualifications are assets that will pay off in the long run. Stay positive and proactive.
In every career phase, you will encounter individuals earning more with less experience. Instead comparisons, channel your energy into productive actions that bring about positive change

Have faced a similar situation but I liked the company I was working for. So, got 2 offers and then approached the manager regarding a raise. Got the raise and stayed back. I know an employee doesn't have to resort to such games but it is what it is in the corporate world.

On the plus side, this will give you a better perspective and confidence to negotiate a much higher pay with the company you switch. Good luck. 🙂

I have been on the other side wherein I earned more than my senior. My CTC was on the higher side of the spectrum, and the company I was interviewing for was desperate to fill the role. Gave me enough space to negotiate higher pay.

I am not a corporate employee but my elder brother always says this never compare yourself with anyone. There is just one question you need to answer “Do you think you are getting fairly compensated for the work you do?” If yes, stay and be happy. Else, switch.

You can raise your concerns about being underpaid compared to your team & market standard to your manager but don't name any specific individual getting paid more than you.

I'll tell you my story, During a casual conversation with the new buddies, came to know they're earning almost twice than me. By that time I was with the company for 6 years. I thought to myself. F**k it. Started giving interviews, and two months later, submitted my resignation. It was in 2023, Jan.

At a personal level, figure out your own priorities in life, decide what's important for you, and if you want to get promoted/move forward in your career than talk to your manager & peers to figure out what is it going to take. Comparison is utterly pointless & useless.

Try to focus on your own growth and value creation, you'll be well-positioned for future success. If the compensation gap persists at your new company after a while, you can re-evaluate based on your performance and market value
