Day to Day Office

#FrydayConfessions: I do nothing at my job.
The title basically sums it up. I work as a software engineer for a major company and do nothing all day. I feel terrible about it, but I can't stop. It's been like this for almost a year, and it doesn't seem like anyone notices. Nobody checks up on me and I do whatever every day. I know nothing special, just something that I deal with every working day of my existence.

In my previous workplace I used to do nothing or very less work for that I was really stressed which I didn't realise at that time. Now as I have changed my employer there is a lot to learn here and there is consistent pressure on me to show my work. In this way I am levelling myself up and making myself better, time also passes fast.
I would suggest you to enjoy if you have free time but switch to a new project or Job in near future.

You are one of those lucky guys I guess. There was a guy in my last company/project who was so lucky that he was pulled into the project without any effort (while I gave many internal client interviews to get into one), for whole year and even before that he was only doing trainings and he was not even interested in getting into real work, the company kept him on company billing all this time while several of my fellow joiners were fired cuz they couldn't get client billing. Eventually he was even pulled into a team within the project. But the one thing which made me even jealous was his work was light and his team was full young people so he continued to enjoy. Meanwhile I was in team full of super senior engineers

This is the problem. You might start off eager for more work to show just how much you can get done. But then the work stops coming in so fast, and you fill the hours with scrolling or screwing around in other ways. Eventually, you spend more time doing nothing, and it makes you lazy and lethargic. You become comfortable just sitting back in your office chair, loading up feed or whatever site, and wasting the day away. No longer are you excited when an email notification pops up; now, instead of being excited at the prospect of a new project, you're angry that someone is making you work again.

First of all, you must do something, right? As in rarely at least?
If you just sit down all day and do nothing at all, then that's a bit weird. But I assume you're in one of those jobs where you're ready if you're needed. And that's okay.

[intenseparrot](username) You're right.. Sometimes, even in jobs where you're not constantly on the go, thereās a lot of thinking or prepping that happens behind the scenes.

The less you work, the more you become inclined to do less work. It becomes a cycle that is very hard to break, unfortunately.
