Are some people just not cut out to work 9-5?š¤
I've had a 9-5 job since last August. At first, it was an exciting new environment, and new people but nearly six months in, I feel like itās killing me. Iām always exhausted and miserable, stuck in a cycle of work, brief distractions, and sleep. This will continue for at least four more years due to my contract.
I've tried working out and reading, but nothing changes my feelings. The job isnāt hard, yet it drains me. A coworker is ambitious, using free time to learn and plan for success, but I lack the energy or motivation. When I do try, I just think, Whatās the point of building someone elseās dream?š¤·āāļø
Maybe this jobāor any jobāisnāt for me. Does anyone else feel this way? What should I do?

I genuinely do not think it is for everyone. People are different and it takes all kinds to keep society moving forward. Would doing something active in the AM help you? Take a brisk walk and listen to a podcast?

[plentycheeku](username) I definitely agree with this.
Iāve noticed people who are more passionate about their work really donāt do well with 9-5s. It is a struggled for them because they want gratification from their work.
Personally I do very well on the 9-5 because my job is just a means to for me to take care of my family and my hobbies. I do want to enjoy my work but it isnāt an end all be all for me and really isnt that big of a deal for me if I am picking up trash or developing a multimillion dollar project.

I'd rather work a 4x10 than a 5x8. Having an extra day off would be more beneficial for the sort of stuff I do for fun.
A friend of mine works a nursing job where he does 12+ hour shifts, but only works 3 days a week. While I'm not cut out for the field, I would definitely rather work longer hours over fewer days than fewer hours over more days.

[cleantonic](username) I've done 5x8, 4x10, and 3x12. 4x10 is definitely the sweet spot--extra day off without exhaustingly long shifts when you're on.

What is this 9-5. I've always been 8-5, for the last many years. Does 9-5 not include a lunch?š¤·āāļø

I heard this from a friend of mine that she works 4x10 and sometimes even 3x12 depending on how mentally stable he is. She even gets paid more than usual if it's a night shift. While here I am, 8-5 on weekdays and 8-12 on Saturdays.

9-5 monday to Friday sounds horrendous. 4x10 at least sounds bearable but not great. Maybe your field isn't for you. I work 12 hour shifts but get plenty of time off too. End up working maybe 6 months total out of the year.
