Geographically speaking, Mobile Telecommunications Company, operating under the name Zain Group, is a key provider of wireless service in the region, providing mobile voice and data services to more than 39 million customers in seven countries in Africa and the Middle East, including Kuwait, Lebanon (operating as mtc touch), Saudi Arabia, and Sudan. Zain was founded in 1983 as the first mobile telecom company in Kuwait and in 1994 was the first in the region to offer roaming services. The company sold off most of its businesses in Africa in 2010 to focus on more profitable areas, primarily in the Middle East.
