Former Whoop exec’s new app Alma uses AI for all things nutrition
- Former VP of product at fitness company Whoop, Rami Alhamad, has launched a new app called Alma which combines a calorie tracker and a nutrition guide with an AI layer that makes nutrition tracking more user friendly.
- The app will enable users to input their meals through a conversation with the app's AI assistant or by taking a picture of the meal.
- Users can also ask the assistant to suggest meals that meet their goals of protein and fiber intake.
- Alhamad expects to generate revenue through a monthly or annual subscription fee.
- Alma is using AI to make the process of tracking nutrition more hassle-free, efficient and personalized, while also providing nutritional advice as a virtual nutritionist.
- The app aims to make the process of recording food intake easy and effortless, which makes it an attractive solution for those who want to stay healthy and whose lifestyle do not allow for consulting a nutritionist.
- The startup has so far raised $2.9M from Menlo Ventures and Anthropic.
- The Alma team is using a mix of GPT and Claude models and incorporating knowledge from Harvard Nutrition to expand its data set and diversify food discovery within the app.
- The app is part of the new wave of products that are enabling users to access cheaper, better and more specialized services through the application of AI models.
- The app is currently available in North America.
