Waitrose Limited operates about 235 Waitrose supermarkets in London, southern England, the Midlands, East Anglia, Wales, and Scotland. Founded in 1904 by Wallace Wait and Arthur Rose, it was acquired in 1937 by John Lewis Partnership, one of the UK's largest retailers. The grocer plans to dramatically increase its retail presence in the UK, and beyond, through its entry into the convenience store market and the development of new store formats and partnerships with other retailers. Beyond the food aisle, Waitrose plans to strengthen its nonfood offering of clothing and housewares in its Food & Home store. A partnership with Internet grocer Ocado delivers Waitrose groceries to homes across the UK.

Supermarket loyalty cards give genuine savings, says watchdog
- Shoppers signed up to supermarket loyalty schemes can make “genuine savings”, according to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
- The CMA reviewed 50,000 products with loyalty price options and found that 92% of them offered savings against the supermarkets’ usual prices.
- Consumers are advised to shop around to secure the cheapest prices, as loyalty prices aren't always the cheapest option.
- The CMA called on supermarkets to include under-18s and those without smartphones in their loyalty schemes.
