Waitrose Limited operates about 235 Waitrose supermarkets in London, southern England, the Midlands, East Anglia, Wales, and Scotland. Founded in 1904 by Wallace Wait and Arthur Rose, it was acquired in 1937 by John Lewis Partnership, one of the UK's largest retailers. The grocer plans to dramatically increase its retail presence in the UK, and beyond, through its entry into the convenience store market and the development of new store formats and partnerships with other retailers. Beyond the food aisle, Waitrose plans to strengthen its nonfood offering of clothing and housewares in its Food & Home store. A partnership with Internet grocer Ocado delivers Waitrose groceries to homes across the UK.

Full-fat milk sales rise as UK’s appetite for low-calorie options cools
- Sales of whole milk, full-fat yoghurt, and butter are rising in the UK as customers shift away from processed food and embrace more natural, whole-food ingredients.
- Waitrose has reported a 417% increase in searches for 'full-fat milk' and a 233% increase for 'full-fat yoghurt' on its website, while 'block butter' searches are up by 280%.
- Consumers' interest in 'low-fat' options has declined, with a shift towards qualities like low sugar content and contributing to the 'five-a-day' intake.
- This change in attitude towards fats is attributed to concerns about ultra-processed food and recent research suggesting that the link between saturated fat and heart disease is not as strong as previously believed.
