Job Description
The Firewall Administrator is responsible for the implementation, configuration, and maintenance of enterprise-level firewalls to ensure the security and integrity of the organization's network infrastructure. This role involves proactively monitoring and managing firewall systems, troubleshooting network security issues, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop and enforce network security policies.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of network protocols, threat detection, and mitigation techniques, along with hands-on experience in administering various firewall platforms.
As a Firewall Administrator, your primary duties will include:

Firewall Configuration and Management:
- Install, configure, and manage enterprise firewalls, intrusion prevention systems (IPS), and VPN devices.
- Create and maintain firewall rules, policies, and objects to ensure secure and efficient network traffic flow.

Network Security Monitoring:
- Monitor firewall logs and alerts to identify and mitigate potential security threats or unauthorized access attempts.
- Respond to security incidents and perform root cause analysis to prevent future occurrences.

Policy Development and Enforcement:
- Collaborate with security and IT teams to develop and enforce network security policies and standards.
- Regularly review and update firewall policies to align with organizational security requirements and compliance standards.

System Maintenance and Updates:
- Perform regular firmware updates, patches, and upgrades on firewall devices to maintain optimal performance and security.
- Ensure redundancy and high availability of firewall systems to minimize downtime.

Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed documentation of firewall configurations, changes, and incidents.
- Prepare reports on firewall activity, security incidents, and network performance for management and audit purposes.
Firewall Platforms:
Experience with one or more enterprise firewall platforms such as:
- Cisco ASA/Firepower
- Palo Alto Networks
- Fortinet FortiGate
- Check Point
- Juniper SRX
Networking Protocols and Security Standards:
- In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, NAT, and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP).
- Familiarity with security frameworks and standards like NIST, ISO 27001, and PCI-DSS.
Security Tools and Technologies:
- Hands-on experience with Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS), SIEM solutions, and vulnerability management tools.
Scripting and Automation:
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell to automate routine tasks and enhance firewall management.
Problem-Solving Skills:
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve complex network security issues efficiently.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently, and work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
Education:
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Certifications such as CCNA Security, CCNP Security, PCNSA, or Fortinet NSE are highly desirable.
Experience:
- 2-5 years of hands-on experience in firewall administration, network security, or a related role.
- Experience in managing large-scale enterprise networks is a plus.
