Job Description

The role requires a hands-on approach to managing daily compliance tasks, overseeing statutory audits, handling legal matters related to labour issues, and working closely with HR and Operations teams to ensure the smooth functioning of all labour-related activities. A strategic thinker with strong communication skills, the candidate should be well-versed in the nuances of labour laws, industrial relations, and best practices for maintaining a compliant workforce.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead negotiations with trade unions, worker representatives, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage grievance redressal mechanisms and maintain a productive relationship with employees and union leaders.
  • Oversee all audits related to labour compliance, ensuring timely submission of all required filings and reports (e.g., PF, ESI, Bonus, etc.).
  • Ensure the timely and accurate filing of statutory returns and maintenance of records as per the requirements of various labour laws.
  • Lead internal audits and external inspections by labour authorities.
  • Conduct regular training sessions on compliance with labour laws for HR, managers, and other relevant personnel.
  • Stay abreast of changes in labour legislation and impart knowledge to the team to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Ensure that all contract labour arrangements comply with legal requirements and best practices.
  • Liaise with external legal counsel on matters relating to labour disputes, legal claims, and industrial relations matters.
  • Oversee the management of statutory benefits such as Provident Fund (PF), Employee State Insurance (ESI), and Gratuity, ensuring correct application.
  • Key Qualifications & Skills:
  • Bachelors degree in Law (LLB), Labour Relations, or a related field.
  • Certification in Labour Laws or a similar qualification (e.g., Diploma in Labour Laws, Industrial Relations).
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in labour law compliance, industrial relations, and human resources, with at least 5 years in a managerial or leadership role.
  • Proven experience in the manufacturing/steel industry or similar high-compliance environments is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with senior leadership, unions, and workers.
  • Ability to lead and manage a team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
