Gearbox Assembly NPD and Manufacturing Engineering

Role & responsibilities

The Gearbox Assembly Manufacturing Engineer will remain responsible for designing, optimizing, and improving the gearbox assembly processes to ensure efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness. This role involves process planning, tooling selection, automation integration, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production capabilities.

Process Design & Optimization

Develop and implement efficient assembly processes for gearbox manufacturing.

Design workstations, line layouts, and assembly sequences to optimize productivity.

Implement Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies.

Tooling & Equipment Selection

Identify and procure tools, fixtures, and automation solutions to enhance assembly efficiency.

Collaborate with suppliers for tooling design, trials, and validation.

Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of assembly equipment.

Standardization & Documentation

Create and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions, and Control Plans.

Develop PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) to mitigate potential risks.

Maintain process documentation for compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and customer standards.

Quality & Defect Reduction

Work closely with the Quality team to identify defects and implement corrective actions.

Analyze root causes of failures and improve process robustness using statistical tools.

Optimize torque specifications, fitment tolerances, and critical assembly parameters.

Automation & Industry 4.0 Implementation

Evaluate and integrate automation solutions such as robotics, vision systems, and IoT sensors.

Implement digital manufacturing tools for real-time process monitoring and predictive maintenance.

Drive smart manufacturing initiatives to enhance efficiency and traceability.

Cost Optimization & Efficiency Improvement

Reduce cycle times, material wastage, and rework through process enhancements.

Optimize manpower utilization and implement ergonomic solutions to improve operator efficiency.

Conduct time studies and line balancing to ensure smooth workflow.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and R&D teams to improve manufacturing processes.

Provide feedback to Design teams for manufacturability improvements and design optimization.

Support new product introductions (NPI) by developing prototype assembly processes.

Preferred candidate profile

Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Automobile, or Production Engineering.

5+ years in gearbox assembly or automotive manufacturing engineering.

Knowledge of gearbox assembly processes, torque requirements, and tolerances.

Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or CATIA) for fixture and layout design.

Experience with automation, PLC programming, and Industry 4.0 technologies.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
