Gearbox Assembly Production Manager

Role & responsibilities

Gearbox Assembly Production Manager will remain responsible for overseeing and managing the entire gearbox assembly process to ensure efficient production, quality standards, and timely delivery. This role involves planning, resource management, process optimization, and coordination with multiple departments to achieve production goals.

1. Production Planning & Execution

Develop and implement production schedules to meet delivery targets.

Ensure optimal utilization of manpower, machines, and materials.

Monitor daily production performance and take corrective actions to minimize downtime.

2. Process Optimization & Efficiency Improvement

Implement Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and other continuous improvement methodologies.

Identify bottlenecks and improve cycle times to enhance productivity.

Reduce waste, rework, and scrap through effective process control.

3. Quality Assurance & Compliance

Ensure adherence to quality standards like IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and customer-specific requirements.

Work closely with the Quality team to address defects and implement corrective actions.

Maintain process standardization through work instructions, SOPs, and best practices.

4. Manpower & Team Management

Lead, train, and motivate the production workforce to achieve performance goals.

Ensure proper skill development and succession planning for key roles.

Foster a culture of teamwork, safety, and discipline on the shop floor.

5. Equipment & Maintenance Management

Ensure proper maintenance and upkeep of assembly line equipment.

Coordinate with the Maintenance team to minimize breakdowns and ensure machine availability.

Implement TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) practices.

6. Inventory & Cost Control

Optimize inventory levels of raw materials, consumables, and finished goods.

Control production costs by reducing wastage, improving efficiency, and optimizing resource allocation.

Implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality.

7. Cross-Functional Coordination

Work closely with the Supply Chain, Quality, R&D, and Maintenance teams to ensure smooth production.

Provide feedback to the Design team for product improvements based on assembly challenges.

Ensure alignment with customer requirements and delivery schedules.

Preferred candidate profile

Bachelors/Masters degree in Mechanical/Automobile/Production Engineering.

12+ years in gearbox or automotive assembly manufacturing, with leadership experience.

Expertise in assembly processes, line balancing, and automation.

Understanding of GD&T, torque requirements, and fitment tolerances.

Proficiency in SAP/ERP systems for production planning.

Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.

Excellent communication and team management skills.

Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
