Job Summary

The Transportation Head will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and cost-effective movement of goods from manufacturing units, OEMs, and warehouses to the desired destinations. The role involves vehicle placement, fleet owner and transporter selection, performance monitoring, and strict control over transportation KPIs and costs. The incumbent will play a crucial role in optimizing logistics operations, reducing freight costs, and ensuring timely deliveries while maintaining service quality and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

1. Vehicle Placement & Logistics Operations

• Ensure the timely placement of vehicles at manufacturing plants, OEMs, and warehouses as per business requirements.
• Plan and optimize route scheduling and vehicle allocation for cost and efficiency.
• Ensure on-time deliveries to distributors, retailers, and customers.
• Work closely with transporters and fleet owners to ensure vehicle availability.
• Ensure adherence to agreement, safety, compliance, and regulatory norms in transportation.

2. Cost Control & KPI Monitoring

• Develop and implement cost control measures to reduce overall transportation expenses.
• Monitor and optimize freight costs and fleet utilization actual vs. budgeted Cost.
• Establish and track key transportation KPIs such as on-time delivery, transit time, Transit damages, and cost per ton/km.
• Implement cost-saving initiatives by improving logistics efficiency and negotiating better rates.

3. Transporter & Fleet Management

• Identify, onboard, and manage fleet owners and transporters through rigorous selection and evaluation processes.
• Negotiate contracts and freight rates with transporters to ensure cost-effective transportation solutions.
• Establish a performance review mechanism for transporters and fleets based on service levels and efficiency.
• Ensure transport partners comply with safety, legal, and operational requirements.

4. Compliance & Risk Management

• Ensure adherence to transportation laws, E-way bills, GST compliance, and RTO regulations.
• Implement risk management policies to prevent delays, accidents, and damages.
• Work with the legal and compliance teams to ensure all vehicle documentation is up to date.

5. Stakeholder & Team Coordination

• Collaborate with demand planning, warehouse, and sales teams for seamless dispatches.
• Liaise with third-party logistics (3PL) providers to enhance operational efficiency.
• Lead and develop a team of logistics and transportation executives to improve performance.

Preferred candidate profile

• 15-20 years in logistics/transportation management in a manufacturing, consumer durables, or FMCG industry.
• Strong knowledge of transportation planning, fleet management, cost control, and vendor negotiations.
• Experience in handling large-scale transportation networks.
• Hands-on experience with transportation management systems (TMS) and ERP-based logistics platforms.
• Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Knowledge of Indian transport regulations, compliance norms, and logistics best practices.
