Safety Manager

Role & responsibilities

1. Safety Policy Implementation

• Develop, update, and ensure implementation of safety policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with government regulations and industry standards.
• Promote a safety-first culture across all construction sites.

2. Risk Assessment and Mitigation

• Conduct site-specific risk assessments and recommend preventive measures to minimize hazards.
• Develop strategies for risk mitigation and emergency response planning.

3. Safety Audits and Inspections

• Schedule and conduct regular site safety inspections and audits.
• Prepare and maintain safety inspection reports and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

4. Compliance and Legal Requirements

• Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations (e.g., Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1996).
• Maintain and update all safety-related documentation, permits, and licenses.

5. Incident Investigation and Reporting

• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-miss cases to determine root causes.
• Prepare detailed incident reports and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

6. Safety Training and Awareness

• Organize safety induction and ongoing training programs for employees, contractors, and subcontractors.
• Promote awareness of safety practices through workshops, toolbox talks, and posters.

7. Emergency Preparedness

• Develop and implement emergency response plans (ERP) for all construction sites.
• Conduct periodic mock drills and evaluate site preparedness.

8. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Management

• Ensure availability and proper usage of PPE by workers at all sites.
• Conduct inspections to verify PPE compliance.

9. Collaboration and Coordination

• Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure safety requirements are integrated into project planning.
• Liaise with statutory authorities during inspections and audits.

10. Safety Metrics and Reporting

• Develop and monitor key safety performance indicators (KPIs) such as Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) and report to management.
• Provide regular safety updates and reports during management review meetings.

11. Safety in Contractor Management

• Evaluate contractors for safety performance and compliance during vendor selection.
• Monitor contractors adherence to safety standards during project execution.

12. Continuous Improvement

• Identify gaps in existing safety measures and recommend improvements.
• Stay updated with industry best practices and innovations in construction safety.
